    Am I crazy???

We just found out we're pregnant with number 2 (planned). I'm currently working 2 days per wk and cant change it until the start of next yr as I've got an aggreement with my boss.

We have recently bought a new house and have a huge mortgage, so I need to work. I'm seriously considering putting DD into daycare 5 days per week just for term 1 next year and I work for term 1. I'm a teacher so i would only be 10 weeks full time.

I would be between 27 and 38 wks pregnant and DD would be 19 months when she starts full time. It's our only chance to earn some decent money before I have the baby and have to start supporting 2 kids.

I have the guilts even considering the CC option for DD, but the centre is 5 ins from work and she would be in there for max 7 hours per day, and I could go down at lunch time.

I know it's not the ideal option but unfortunately money is essentil these days. We don't qualify for any family tax or other benefits so have to prepare to pay all the bills without help.

    Thoughts anyone

Hey nellnell, congrats on number 2! I don't think you are crazy - I think it makes sense to take advantage of the time you have available to maximise your earnings.

I know a couple who both work full time and have done since DS was 6 weeks old. They are so strong financially right now (DS is now 2.5) and they also love their jobs so it was an easy choice for them. IMHO though they have missed a lot in DS's life... and now they are pg with #2 - interesting to see how they approach two kids...

But for you, it would only be 10 weeks, then you'd be back to being full time mama. I don't think its crazy at all.

You never know - DD might like being there full time!

I'm doing something similar, as I just mentioned in another thread. I came back to work full time after my mat leave finished so that I get the full time entitlements (6 months full pay) for this bub. Part time would have got us through financial, but it's setting us up so much better financially, and in the long run DS (who stays with my mum and sister five days a week) will benefit by having mummy home with him over a longer period of time

I dont think you should feel guilty at all, I work at a long day care centre and can tell you that there is alot of SLACK dole bludging parents who put their children in full time care when they are at home watching Jerry Springer. All the staff feel for the hard working caring parents who are forced into care. Make sure you throughly check the centre out and feel comfortable with the staff because I know from exprience that there is some really low quality centres with incompetent staff.
I wouldnt recommend visiting during the day though as it upsets the childrens routine and makes seperation harder on both of you

You have to do what you have to do. Don't beat yourself up about it. My kids are both in fulltime CC and they adore it and are thriving there.
