Applying for a new job while on Maternity Leave

Does anybody know what happens if u apply for another job while on maternity leave (with a whole new company). If u get the job, is it just a matter of saying to the original company that u are not coming back to work or is there some kind of legal mumbo jumbo to go through.

i think you just tell them you are not coming back, may vary by company though depending on if they offer you more than statuatory with some conditions attached etc. have a read of the hr policy maybe?? (though i know that can be hard to do subtly!)

I think you can just resign from the other job.

you just resing from what I know, at my work thought you have to pay back the maternity leave payment they give you as you are only entitled to the leave if you are coming back and you have to stay there for 6 months when you come back or you have to pay it back also
Best to check with the HR dept.

This happened to me when I was on maternity leave after I had jasmine. I resigned from my old job you normally would have to give notice in most cases but my old company let me just leave with no notice while on leave and still paid me my entitlements.

My work doesnt pay any paid maternity leave so I guess Im lucky there (probably would stay if they did pay some maternity leave).

oh in that case i am sure you can just resign - ie tell them you are not returning as planned.
