Not sure if this is in the right place, annual leave vs sick leave

    Hi all,

Im still working full time and i have used up all my sick leave so i use my annual leave when i need to take time off or i am sick etc.

This will be my fifth day off since last week as iv had a chest infection ,dehydration and vomiting for a week,so iv had time off so i can rest at home, iv been to the dr plus hospital for an IV etc

i just called my boss to let them know that i would be back tomorrow ,and all i basically got was 'u know u will need a DR cert as you have had more than 2 days off in a row'

i didnt say anything but as this is not officially sick leave as it is coming out of my own Annual leave do i need a cert?

I would say you do need to get a cert if that is what your work is requesting as you are effectivley converting your annual leave to sick leave.

annual leave often requires prior notice. so quite possibly a sick certificate is needed if you taking annual leave with minimal notice.

check with your union if you are not happy with it. can you do stat dec s instead of medical certificate?
