how do you apply for it? is it just done over the phone or do you have to go into centrelink and fill out forms?

the application is done using online services (preferably) - you can register online if you don't already have a c'link file.

I applied online and it was reasonable painless, and took about 15 min. You need your and your partners tax file number on hand. You can do it from 3 months before your due date.
You also apply for the immunisation allowance at the same time if thats applicable to you.

As Briggsy's girl said, you have to sign up for online services first, and then go through that to apply.

i just done the online application..... it never asked me for employers abn......im confused....

i definitely did the parental leave... maybe its because i chose the option for the government to deposit into my account instead of my employer.....
my employer doesnt pay via direct deposit and stuffed if im gonna go in there everyweek just to pick up parental leave....

Mine is not through my employer,Im going to get mine paid through the government,and I didn't put an employer ABN in either. I know employers start paying it from July,but for this cross over period Jan to June,government or employer can pay.should be fine,I will be double-checking everything is in order a few weeks before my due date.
