That is a great reply and you are absolutely right ... if they really want you in that job then they should make more of an effort to solve the part time problem themselves. And isn't it public service? They should know better!

I don't think you have shot yourself in the foot. It really is true that there is a problem in this country with women in higher positions being forced back down the ladder because they choose to split time between family and work and it is something that needs to be addressed but it can't happen unless the employers take some responsibility too.
