I finished up at 34+3. Purely because we are not allowed to have babies where we live and must be out of town by 36wks. So in the week and a half I had to fly down and back for extra doc appointment, pack etc and we drove 2 day to get to Perth. I was in perth for 1 wk before DD decided she'd be born at 36+6. I think as others have mentioned it depends on your work, how stressed you are (mine was quite stressful and demanding), how organised you are for bubs and most of all - how YOU feel.
I finished at 37 weeks but I had pelvic problems and was in a lot of pain. It was actually easier for me to go to work than be stuck at home, wanting to 'nest' but being unable to because I wasn't meant to stand (so no cooking), bend or lift (so no getting the room ready for baby). Being at home was just frustrating because there were so many things I wanted to do but physically couldn't. Having said that, I was completely buggered so being at work wasn't easy either though they did pay for taxis so at least I didn't have to walk to/from the train station every day.
I finished at 36 wks and I am glad I did (Christmas Eve). I work in an office, people told me 'you are lucky you can sit, you could work longer' but no way. All I have done is sleep since I finished, I was nearly asleep on Christmas day! I think it varies on each person.
I handed in my mat leave form last week - was a great feeling I'm finishing up at 37 weeks, was going to finish at 38 but decided to finish the day before my birthday
