    work/2nd job/centrelink...

Not sure where to put this..

I've been with the company a little over 3.5yrs. I'm back at work now - no more maternity leave for me! However, I work the following :
    Monday 7.30am -12.30p,
    Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri 7.30am - 10.30am
I'm happy with my current rate.

However, and I have to get this information to my boss today, work wants me to work more hours, if not full time. I explained to one supervisor this morning that it's not as easy as he makes it out to be. My son is not in "approved care", but is cared for by his great-grandma (my grandma) and his nana (my mil - on a Tuesday only).

They have lives too, especially my grandma, as she helps out with her church committee, meals on wheels, etc (plus she's my dads carer). She's super busy. (and at the moment, while we only have 1 car - she picks me up from work and if I need to use the car, she lets me!) But just the week gone, she's let me know she can't look after ds on one friday and one wednesday a mth. So I have to work out care for ds. That should be easy, a friend has just started FDC and I'll try get him in there.

I want to tell work I'm willing to work another 1.5hrs a day (I think if I wasn't going to do more, they were going to put on another FT employee - I'm not doing FT)

On top of that, my MIL's boss has asked if I can do 2hrs a day for 3 days a week for her. So I'll do that straight after I finish my job, so my grandma will have him for 6.5hrs.

I feel so bad for her. He's a little handful. But I don't want to put him into care. I can't work more hours, have my centrelink reduced, and not be able to pay bills. I don't want to have to put him into care, and be working more hours for nothing...

TBH, I'd rather not work any more hours at work (where I am right now lol), do the work for MIL's boss and thats it. The way the balance with my life and work life is right now I think is just right.

What can I say to my boss that I only want to work an extra 1.5hrs, and if he's not happy with that, then I'll stay with my current hours? Do I even mention the 2nd job?

I should mention too, that I'm a Tupperware demonstrator.
    wdid? I'm so confused

I've probably just confused you, but I got sidetracked in there, trying to hide this posting from my boss who is probably looking over my shoulder right now...

if you're in a situation where working additional hours isn't that you want isn't going to satisfy your employers needs, you have to be upfront with him. essentially, tell him you can swing the extra hours you have offered, but any more than that, you'll have to put your child in day care, and you'll end up losing money and you can't afford to do that. don't mention the second job - it's none of your employers business! he either takes what you can do, or finds another employee. if he's looking at adding another FT employee though, i doubt what you're offering will be enough...

as to centrelink, all you have to do is let them know your income, and your payments will be altered accordingly - not much else you can do there!
