    Amniocentesis

    Hi All,
My doctor suggested me to do Amniocentesis, as my blood test wasn?t perfect, I am so nervous and scared I don?t know what to do, I would like to hear from someone had the same experience.

    Thanks,

    Cival

    Cival,

To be honest I found the hardest thing about having an amnio was making the decision. My Dr suggested it as I am a older mum. It is scary and does carry some risk all of which I'm sure you have been made aware of.
I was able to find a Dr that has done a huge number of them and his stats on things going wrong was really low which made it a bit easier. All I had afterwards was some cramping like AF was due that lasted for about 2 hours and that was it.
    Good luck.

    Hi there,

I havent had the amnio but i have had the CVS with this little baby.

In my heart I knew everything was fine but DF really wanted me to have it after the bloods and NT came back as high risk - so i did, and its not that bad - sure doesmake you feel better KNOWING baby is ok.

Thanks Lucy, Jmmum and Kitt3n for your answer I feel better now.

I am going to do Amnio in Freemason hospital Melbourne I just called them to have some information about the doctor who is going to do the procedure they couldn't tell me the success rate as they don't keep record. I have tried many years to get pregnant the miscarriage always in my mind it is so hard I hope every think will be fine.

Had my amnio at Freemason. The Dr was Andrew Ngu from memory he does heaps of them and came very highly recommended. Good luck. Relax as much as you can and enjoy seeing your precious bub.

Cival - as my doc said (the one wo performed the CVS) - the miscarriage rate is calculated as the world wide miscarriage rate due to such tests. He assured me that all he wnated as an out come was a healthy baby in our arms, and that he would not sggest anything that would jeapordise that in any way.

He also said that if a miscarriage did occur, it cant be certain that it is due to these tests, and it was his belief that if it did occur then it was quite likely to happen anyway.

Good luck and let us know how you go
