    Bleeding at 13 weeks!!

    Hi All,

I am just over 13 weeks pregnant and started bleeding about 5 days ago (2 days after a perfect scan) ...at first it was just a little bit, but then after 2 hours - gush!! There was heaps of bright red blood everywhere.....I rang my obstetrician and he said to try not to worry, as long as I did not have any pain (which I didn't). He told me to have bed rest for 2 days and it should stop. It did taper off after that and in 2 days time there was no bleeding whatsoever. This moring (after 2 days of no bleeding) I woke up to a wet feeling and 'gush' there it was again.....bright red blood everywhere....... I tried not to panic and rang my obstetrician as soon as it was a decent hour. He said again, not much that can be done, he was very confident that the baby is fine as still I have no pain. He said to rest up again and it just may be one of those things that I will get - -on/off bleeding - great!!! He said for my piece of mind, to get a scan next week to ensure the baby is growing well etc.....

I am just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?? This is my 3rd baby and my previous 2 pregnancies were an absolute breeze with no bleeding.....I am trying to be positive but of course cannot help but worry.....there is not much I can do but rest and have faith in what my doctor is telling me......I still have such a long way to go, it is going to be a long 6 months!!!!

    Baby Lover,

I had bleeding on and off from week 6 to week 12 - its a very scarey time and all you can do is have faith in your body and rest. I would go to the emergency dept of your local hospital if you are worried - thats what I did evey time and they got me a scan and showed that all was fine.
If you are worried go to the emerg dept - they will do all the tests and out your mind at ease - I found that even if I thought I was being a annoying to them that it made me feel better and relax which is the most important thing.
Good luck and I hope it all goes very well for you.
    Love
    Kate

Thanks Kate and congratulations on your pregnancy, I am so excited for you, I normally love being pregnant, but this time I am not so sure....
It is reassuring to know that this does happen to others probably more often that we think!! I am glad everything has turned out ok for you.......yes, it is scary and I DO have to have faith in my body.....if I feel the need to have a scan before next week I will definitely go to the hospital.....
    Thanks again for your advice

    No worries BabyL!
Just get some rest and look after yourself too! When I was having my eps of bleeding I just stayed at home and watched DVDs and did NOTHING! Hard to do when I should be at work but I just figurerd in the long run that my bub was farm more important!
Hope it all gets better soon,
Feel free to PM me if you need to talk!!
    Love

    Hi babyL
Hope your bleeding has settled down.
Sal had bleeding at 5 weeks, 6 weeks and 14 weeks and in each case was fine, but our fertility doctor did a scan both times for the early bleeds just to reassure us. It was such a relief to see that little flickering heartbeat!
I know they can't do anything either way, but I just wish your doctor could be more understanding of the fact that it is REALLY scary for you!! We basically had to tell our Obstetrician to send us for a scan at the 14 week bleed, he just didn't seem to understand that all we wanted was some reassurance that everything was fine. I wonder if it's different seeing a guy doctor vs a girl doctor ( fertility specialist is a girl )to understand and empathise with the fear of seeing blood.
Squishy was fine, looks like the placenta is trying to form over the cervix which will cause that sort of bleeding and shouldn't be a problem until later in the pregnancy. If the placenta stays there, Sal might have to C section. It means that if there is any more bleeding though, we won't have to PANIC like we did before because we have a reason for it.
I say go back to your doctor or go to the emergency and ask for an ultrasound for your piece of mind. It's better for bubs and your other kids to have you reassured and feeling better about it than worrying for the next few weeks.....
I'm a bit angry at your OB for not understanding your worry and sending you for a scan immediately....grrr...

Dear Sally, Thanks for your message
I have put all my faith in my obstetrician, and trust his judgement. I am glad Sal is fine....she is due just before me!!
There is 1 thing that is keeping me together through this.....I had bought myself a doppler and have heard the heart beat every day since the first bleeding.....I did not tell my doctor this as he would think i am this crazy anxious woman.......so the baby is fine at the moment, but I am wondering WHY it is happening. I am suspecting some placenta issues.....the scan next week will tell me something I hope.....if it weren't for my doppler I reckon I would have been in at the hospital making sure everything was ok, you just can't help but WORRY!!!!!!
Anyway, thanks for your post and advice, and congratulations to you and Sal.

    Hi Babyl

I understand your anxiety, i have had bleeding at 8wk, 15wks, twice at 17wks and then again last Saturday. Lucky for me that it is only ever very slight brown discharge amongst the normal CM and normally goes as quick as it comes, if i got what you have had i think i would be a complete mess by now! I agree with just going to the ED of your hospital when this happens, it might be worth wild getting an inspection IYKWIM to see where it is actually coming from, that is what i had done at the 8wks and i was told that my cervix is nicely shut and that it is probably from the extra blood that travels around when we are UTD. I hope it works out all fine for you

Thank you Danniim and congratulations to you on your pregnancy
I think I can expect this bleeding to continue on/off like what has happened to you. I don't know why I get so much blood, but I guess my scan next week will let me know if there is something going on with the placenta....not much i can do......
It is reassuring to know that this all happens to other people - obviously everyone's different but we just have to accept it don't we??
Thanks so much for your reply.....everything helps me feel better xx

    Hi there,
Sorry you are having this bleeding, it can be worrysome I know. I had bleeding at 7wks and then I had a major bleed (ob called it threatened m/c) and I was confined to 2 weeks TOTAL bed rest. I followed orders and my DD is now almost one.

There is a thread 'bleeding in pg' somewhere on BB that might help allay your fears further.

Good luck, hope your little bub is nice and snug

babylover - I too experienced a threatened miscarriage at 5 weeks also spotting at 8 and 12 weeks. Are you a + or - blood group? I'm a - blood group therefore I needed an Anti D injection.

I hope you are relaxing and enjoying some TLC from everyone around you. I'd say try not to worry - it's easier said than done.
