Can anyone tell me what these blood tests codes mean?
Can someone tell me what any of these investigations are please?
This is how they appear on the 2 pathology forms I got sent.
They were done at around 3mths pregnancy and about 1 wk apart. I dont even remember having the 2nd lot done - maybe its not even pregnancy related???
IS
B12, RCF
VITD
PEI
MWFM,UMCS
PEI (not sure why I got this one done twice?)
i pressume you are looking at your bill..... PEI is a charge for the collection of the samples, if you had two lots then that is why you were charged twice.
As for the tests....
IS- iron levels
B12- is B12 levels
VITD- is Vitamin D levels
RCF- folate levels
As for the second lot, a bit of a guess (after some 'searching' )....
UMCS- i think is some kind of urine sample.
and as for MWFM i am not sure but did you have the vaginal swab? You know the one you often do yourself, i remember it b/c i was surprised i had to do it myself! lol It seems to be some kind of swab type test anyway.
oh, ok.
Are those the standard bloods they do at 3mths?
The PEI amount (charge) was higher for the blood and less for what you have said is the urine test, so that makes sence I guess - blood requiring a bit more to asses than some pee. I dont know what the results of that were. I know remember (since you mentioned it ) that I did pee in a pot for them, but I didnt have or do any swab...?
Feeling rather annoyed about the tests - especially since when I went to the midwives they rang the GP and the results couldnt be found, so I had to have bloods redone anyway.
Also the GP never told me that I would be billed separatly for the tests.
Im not going back to that GP, they kept getting my name and address wrong etc. Blimm`en useless.
YEah pretty standard early preg bloods, not sure of exact timing though i had mine at about 10 weeks i think.
Not sure why midwife couldn't ring pathology directly for results. Frustrating you had to pay twice for same blood tets. I'd ditch the Dr too, if they can't even get your details right!
I presume you would have been billed seperately b/c the tests were done on two seperate occasions not at the same time IYKWIM...... would that be right?
Yea they were done on separate occaisions. What I mean is they (the GP) did not tell me at the time I was paying for my consultations that I would be sent an additional bill for the tests. I thought the consultations were pricey enough, and in NZ where I had just moved from, you dont have to pay for lab stuff.
Since I have been given final notices I guess I just need to get on and pay them and hope the medicare rebate is generous.
...oh, and yes, I have already found another Gp which I have enrolled with. But at the time that one was the only one I could find that was taking on new patients... maybe now I know why
Oh i geddit! Yeah NZ is so much better for things like that. I landed on my head mountain biking and i didn't have to pay for ANYTHING, not the meds, the x-rays, anything. I couldn't believe it. NZ is great if you are sick!
If you ring the pathology place they'll tell you how much you'll get back from Medicare. You can also take the bill to medicare and get a cheque for the amount they will pay first, and then just pay the difference, if that is easier for you.
