I had similar when I was pregnant, see your doctor as they will check that the AB script you have is appropriate (ie if it's a viral infection ABs won't do anything) and they might also be able to recommend an expectorant cough syrup which will help you get the phlegm out with a minimum of coughing. And yes you do need to rest as your immune system is suppressed during PG so your body needs to work much harder to fight the infection.

    Take care.

I have always suffered from Bronchitis or chest infections through my entire life. When some one gets the head cold and i get it off them, within 24 hours its moved to my chest and almost impossible to budge. I have to say any time I have taken Antibiotics I have felt worse. Tummy aches, the runs and terrible discomfort. I would avoid antibiotics if you can. I have been told that Bisolvin is ok in pregnancy. I asked the MotherSafe ladies about it and said it is ok in pregnancy. You can get it at the chemist in tablets or syrup. It is for chesty coughs which is what a chest infection usually is. Also I got a vapouriser and it did help clear the chest as well, it just takes longer when your pregnant.

I hope you feel better soon!

Oh Hollye - You poor thing!
I had the flu and it moved to my chest as well a few months ago - if you are coughung heaps you can take Panadine which also acts as a cough supressant and is totally safe in preg - Thats what I did and it makes your cough go away completely while the tabs are working - its such a relief!!
I hope you feel better soon!

    hey,

well what a journey i have been on. I really should have let u girls know but i have no credit on my phone.
I went to the hospital yesterday morning about 7:30 and got seen straight away. I had a huge temp and my BP was through the roof. Anyway the doc checks me out and takes a urine sample.... then low and behold i have PROTEIN and GLUCOSE in my urine not good they tell me. The chest thing is a serious infection in my breathing/respitory/brocial (sp) tubes. But they dont give a **** about this as they tell me im not going home and i have hypertension (pre eclampsia). I freaked!. They sent me to antenatal and hooked me up to a CTG. Bub was fine and i wasnt in labour. Mind u at this stage i just wanted the chest pain to stop as i could hardly breath. Then got seen by an OB and she tells me there is no chance im walking out them doors today (im shatered) anyhoo the OB requests a blood test, chest xray, growth scan, 24 urine collection for protien etc and so on so forth. Well i march my way up to the midwifery ward (still wanting to go home) and they give me a room. Then they start pumping me full of drugs. BP taken.. check pee in jug..check blood taken...check.. blood taken again (my last lot clotted)...check, temp etc etc etc.......... Had my chest xray coz they thought i might have have phenomia (sp). which i dont.. thank god! ummm skipping forward..
same sorta thing this morning after a horrible night sleep. Another CTG tthis morning tho.. BP went down and then back up.... temp started to go down. 3pm i head off for my growth scan (this was done to see how big she was incase things went mental and she had to come out) and shes measuring about 4lb 6oz and the fluid was normal n they did some other measurements. It was a sigh of relief about the scan thats for sure. anyhoo... i just want to go home by this stage i have had enough..all the tests, poking and proding. went back to my room and BP and temp got checked.. BP gone up again but temp is good. Then i wait and wait and wait and get more drugs and wait.... waiting for Owen (the best doc/surgeon) to come and tell me i can go home.. he comes.. at 7pm. he said bubs good.. BP's not great but hes not going to give me meds for it just yet. He gave me a script for my AB's and gave me an appointment to go to the hospital next week to get checked out and hopefully they wont admit me again. and now..im home.... yay.
so a little scary but im glad i went.

Wow. Scary stuff. I'm glad you're home now and your temp came down.
Fingers crossed your BP comes down too. Maybe it was just high from the worry and stress from your chest infection or whatever it is you have in there.

I hope next weeks appt goes fine and everything keeps going well.

Look after yourself as best you can.
