ive been up since before 5am and im so sick. I have lost my voice and every time i try and talk/breath through my mouth i choke on flem.
is there anything i can take? ecalyptus lollies? anything at all (apart from panadol) please my chest is so sore right now from all the coughing. I have a script sitting here for antibiotics from the last time i was sick. Is it still ok to take them at 32 weekks? Should i go get them? ps. im not going to the doctor coz hes just going to tell me to go home and rest and i really dont want to leave the warm house unless i have to.
I wouldn't take them if they were not prescribed for this bout of illness. You may have had something slightly different last time and you don't really want to be taking something that might not work ifywim..
If it is a bacterial infection, there are anti-biotics that you can take through pg, but there is always a risk, just some a lot lower than others, and you dr should prescribe something if you want and need him/her to. If it is only viral, you will be told to go home take panadol for the discomfort and sleep (there may be some over the counter ones, but again, I would only be taking advice from a pharmacist or gp when I am pg). I always find a hot lemon drink with honey or sugar helps with colds, and anything in the upper respiratory area..
I have the same thing at the moment, have just been to the doctor and am taking amoxycillin tabs, which are ok in pregnancy, had them about 7 weeks ago as well, for the same thing.
hope you are feeling better soon,
take care,
I had similar when I was pregnant, see your doctor as they will check that the AB script you have is appropriate (ie if it's a viral infection ABs won't do anything) and they might also be able to recommend an expectorant cough syrup which will help you get the phlegm out with a minimum of coughing. And yes you do need to rest as your immune system is suppressed during PG so your body needs to work much harder to fight the infection.
I have always suffered from Bronchitis or chest infections through my entire life. When some one gets the head cold and i get it off them, within 24 hours its moved to my chest and almost impossible to budge. I have to say any time I have taken Antibiotics I have felt worse. Tummy aches, the runs and terrible discomfort. I would avoid antibiotics if you can. I have been told that Bisolvin is ok in pregnancy. I asked the MotherSafe ladies about it and said it is ok in pregnancy. You can get it at the chemist in tablets or syrup. It is for chesty coughs which is what a chest infection usually is. Also I got a vapouriser and it did help clear the chest as well, it just takes longer when your pregnant.
Oh Hollye - You poor thing!
I had the flu and it moved to my chest as well a few months ago - if you are coughung heaps you can take Panadine which also acts as a cough supressant and is totally safe in preg - Thats what I did and it makes your cough go away completely while the tabs are working - its such a relief!!
I hope you feel better soon!
