    Cold sore's during pregnancy

My sister is 25w pregnant and has a massive cold sore all along her bottom lip. It is so sore but the chemist would not give her anything for it. Just wondering if you guys have heard of anything that works or that she could take when pregnant?

    Thanks!

I tried all the creams and stuff over the years and the one thing that works best is aftershave. Stings but just dab some on the cold sore and it'll dry it out overnight. Perfectly fine while pregnant

Vodka from the freezer! Dab it on with a cotton ball. The cold and alcohol combination works wonders. I had them with dd2 and can testify that it works.

Ice can help soothe it. I too use aftershave

Also tell her to check her diet. When you have a cold sore you need to avoid the protein Arginine that is a building block for the virus replication. The protein Lysine will block Arginine. So you want to have a google of Lysine and Arginine containing foods, eating more of the former and less of the latter.

It's on the inside of her lip - would the aftershave be ok there?

It would be ok but taste revolting and probably come straight off

I checked with Mothersafe and they said that was completely safe
