Red face CPC and Low Iron

    Hey ladies,
Looking for some advice and experiances if anyones got them...

I had my 18 weeks scan and they found CPC (choroid Plexus Cysts) on my blob's brain, from what i know this isn't very common 1-2% of pregnancies, and it should go away... I'm wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this problem??? My Gp would like to do another scan and Amnio. But my OBYN isn't to fussed with it, he just wants to rescan, and has told me not to worry... ( he wasn't very sympathetic to a first time worried stressing out mum)

My other question is what else can i do for low iron, as all 3 blood test my iron levels have decreased... and i'm feeling really crappy... when i found out i was pregnant i started taking "prenatel vitamins" after the 2nd blood test they started me on another iron suppliment... I have also been trying to eat as much red meat and iron rich foods that i can... but it dosn't seem to be working... any one have any other ideas to try before medical team intervines...

Thanks for the ear ladies -
    Cheers

Cass, with your iron try and make sure you are having something with vit C with your meat - red meat is obviously the best source but so are things like wholemeal bread and sardines... also I snack on dried apricots and almonds and they are both quite good for iron as well as calcium. Maybe drink a glass of OJ or blackcurrant juice with your meal as that will help iron absorbtion. Also make sure you are not drinking too much coffee or tea as caffeine will prevent you absorbing as much iron as you could.

If I can help any more with the iron thing let me know, I was anaemic before I cut out red meat and so in order to convince my mother that I was healthy I really had to educate myself and eat well! (And now she's finally satisfied... 12 years later, lol!)

Good luck with the CPC, hope someone else has some help for you and it turns out OK.

If your body has trouble absorbing the iron from food, it might help to take a liquid iron tonic like Floradix rather than the tablet ones. I had low ferritin levels and my naturopath gave me something similar (Fe Max I think) as I was already doing everything I could with diet. Much better now.

Good luck with the CPC - I'm sure someone on here will have some advice.

    Hi,

Just saw your post and needed to reply. Our little boy (born 23 Oct) was diagnosed with 3 small CPC's in the 20 week scan. Like you we were advised it is rare,
and were told that of the 1 to 2% of babies with CPC's, only 1% (ie: 1% of that 2%) have any problems causing defects. We were still concerned though.

The Radiologist advised another scan at 24 weeks. At that stage he said they normally have disappeared. We talked at length with our midwife who referred us to the Obstetrician at the Hospital, who arranged a specialist tertiary scan at 24 weeks. As it was a tertiary scan the Radiologist looked for every potential defect; the scan took about 45 mins, during which an obstetrician watched proceedings in an adjacent room. After careful examiniation he came and talked to us. This is normal practice in NZ; I wouldn't know what the procedure is in Australia, but I imagine not much different.

Anyway, as I said earlier our little boy was born last week in perfect health and is absolutely gorgeous. I can distinctly remember the stress when told about the CPC's
but the later scan certainely put my mind at rest. Just try and remember that problems with this condition are extremely rare.

I hope this has been of some help for you.
