Looking for mums who have had a gastroschisis baby..

I'm a 22 year old soon to be single mum. I'm 26 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I found out at 13 weeks that my baby has a birth defect called gastroschisis which means her abdominal muscles haven't formed properly and her intestines are exposed to the amniotic fluid through the hole above the umbilical cord. I will have to be induced 2 - 4 weeks early and she will require surgery within hours after her birth to repair the hole and put her intestines back inside her body. She's also looking at a 4 week stay in hospital. Doctors say this is a fairly common thing these days, about 1 in 5000 births and most babies born with this condition live happy healthy lives. It's been quite a daunting experience so far and I'm really nervous about what is still to come! I would love to talk to other people who have experienced anything like this and hear their stories!

    Hi Elyse.
I'm sorry I can't help you with your question, but hopefully someone will be able to give you the information and support you're after.
Just wanted to pop in and say welcome to BellyBelly.
    Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Hello and so sorry for such a late reply but please feel free to contact me about gastroschisis as my son had it. Your bub would have been born by now, it would be great to hear how you are going.
