I have a friend who has a damaged coccyx (reveresed?) after having an accident as a child. She has been seeing a chiro who has helped correct the damage, but she has been told that she may not be able to have a natural birth because of this. Does anyone know anything about this, or have any information? I have never heard of it before so i'm just mainly curious.
Hi LG
Yes for a few women this can be a problem. But your cocyx is a little flexable and can move a little. Also sometimes the cocyx can be broken by the baby's head during birth. All this will depend on how bent the cocyx is
I damaged mine a couple of years ago too. It was extremely painful for months, but the pain slowly subsided & it now completely fine. I'm sure it's not where it used to be though IYKWIM?
Alan - when/how do you find out whether it might present a problem during childbirth? I've just hit 30 weeks & never thought to bring it up at an appt with my birth centre. I'd hate to find out too late that it is an issue!
ooo i damaged mine years ago ater a rollerblading incident.... i couldnt sit for weeks.
I completely forgot about it, even tho it still hurts sometimes after sitting for long periods.
I just gave birth naturally, and it seemed fine. It did ache for a good week afterwards, but there were no issues with the little one coming out.... he came with one push, head, body, everything.
I hope it poses no issue for any of u.
good luck
