    Question Help. Itchiness during pregnancy

    Hi

Has anyone experienced skin itchiness during pregnancy?

I have crazy itchiness every evening and wondering if it is a pg thing.

I have a neuro condition that presents more in the evening, so not sure if it is related to that, just a general pg thing or neuro+pg thing.

I haven't outed myself yet with those with my neuro condition, so can't ask them if it could be related to that yet.

Please reply even if you just saying you haven't had it before.

    Cheers,

    k

    Hi Kate,

The only skin itchiness i had was an itchy belly and breasts.
By using a moisturiser suitable for pregnancy everyday i cut the itch right down.

I believe this was related to my skin stretching - alot....

    Good luck

I also had itchy belly and breasts. But my skin everywhere was very dry too and flakey. Only started with the pregnancy.

I didn't experience it anywhere but one of my preg books (the british one) said that it was a symptom of pregnancy so it is probably at least partly to do with pregnancy. Must be annoying.

Oh I just remembered - book also said if it becomes excessive itchiness or you notice any yellowing of the skin or eye-whites to see your Doctor as there is some kind of liver-problem that can present with pregnancy and excessive itchiness is a symptom. Unlikely but JIC.

It depends on where the itchiness is as to whether it could indicate a serious health problem. I had a condition call cholestasis with my last pregnancy. The inchiness was on my hands and feet. It was unbearable. I had to take medication. My baby also had to be induced early for safety reasons.

    Where are you itchy?

I got an itchy belly mostly.

It can be a normal pregnancy thing, but it can also indicate cholestasis, as has been mentioned and this can be quite dangerous, so its always best to ask just to be sure.
