Hi there dont panic!!!!

GBS is a harmless (unless you are a baby coming through a GBS birth canal as luck would have it...)bacteria that lives in body secretions and can be passed on orally through using toothbrushes or same utensils or through sex etc but usually a whole household will test pos. It is not an STD. My ob told me my mum probably had it as I have it and not to worry. My partner probably has it either from me or maybe he even gave it to me...Who knows?

All it means is when your daughter is in labour and her water breaks she should go to the hosp calmly after a shower or a meal or whatever and get an IV of antibiotics for her and the baby. She will still need the antibiotics if she has a caesar if the waters have broken too as the waters membrane stops the baceria being able to get in from the vagina.

My OB explained that if I dont get the antibiotics the baby could have complications from breathing the fluid such as pnemonia. It is not a 000 call event if her waters break, just make sure she tells the midwives at the hosp when she goes there.

I hope this helps, her OB or MW should have explained this to her..I was a bit worried at first but with reassurance from my OB I am not worried at all.

If anyone has anything to add Id be interested in reading too

Good luck with your daughters PG
