Looking for Reassurance - Red Spotting at 17weeks

    Hi there All

Just wondering if anyone on here has had spotting at 17weeks??

I went to the loo this morning and found when I wiped 3 bright red dots of blood - went off and spent the day in the ER, got my Anti-D injection, had a little US - only to reassure me that the baby was still alive and kicking - they didn't check for anything on the US.

Had a speculum put in to see where the blood was coming from - no where to be seen.
and overall just a waste of 6 stressful hours - I'm really quite ****ed off - as I wasn't seen by an OG Registrar as they were apparently too busy to see me - but later I found out it had to do with the fact that I was under 20 weeks and therefore they don't have to "deal" with me.

My birthing centre couldn't/wouldn't do anything to help either and I feel overall that the feedback I got today was less than acceptable - given that they didn't even have a doppler to check the baby's heart and they didn't check my urine and they didn't even look to see if the bleed had anything to do with the placenta.

So I'm hoping that maybe someone on here can enlighten me as to what the hell happened this morning and what could have possibly been the cause, and what should I do next??

FYI - there's been NO sexual contact throughout this pregnancy - much to DH dismay - but Libby Libido has left town well and truely - so no chance of this being an upset from that...

    I'm just exhausted and worried

    TIA

    I hope it's nothing serious.
I can understand the way your feeling with how you were treated. When I was pg with my first DD, I went into labour at 19 weeks. As the maternity ward only deal with patients from 20 onwards, I had to be looked after by the staff in ED. The OB was too busy to see me at the time. Fortunately, it all passed and I went on to deliver my DD at 37.5 weeks.

Any sign of thrush? I had some spotting due to an acute case at about 20 weeks preg so that is a possibility.

I have had bleeding with DD1 at 15 weeks and Ds at 13 weeks and never found the reason for either. They were both fine, my GP just told me to take it easy for a few days.
    Hope everything is OK.

    Hi Dianna,
I had a large bleed (with clots) at 16 weeks. I like you spent the day in Emergency. It was the worst. They didn't do a speculem to me but I did get a crude u/s to see bub move and a wee test. Because my pregnancy is very complicated I was seen by my special care midwife and counceller while I was there. She explained to the Dr about my situation and I think that is the only reason I got an U/S.

I didn't see a registrar as like you said "wasn't the magic 20 weeks" were the baby becomes real.
I went to my GP the next day and she ordered a propper U/S to check things out. The bleeding slowed with in a few days. As you can see I am still pregnant.
I hope your bleed means nothing also.
    Take care
    Chris

Thanks for the feedback ladies - well I've had more blood, this time in the urine and I have now been officially dropped by the birthing centre - seems I'm too much hard work - I have now however been moved up to the High Risk Clinic - whatever, at this point I don't really care who sees me as long as this baby is happy and healthy and full term - I'm off to see the High Risk clinic next week in the hope of finding out what is causing all this discomfort - I have suffered recurring UTI this whole pregnancy which is odd considering I have never had this problem prior to pregnancy - so looks like a visit to the Renal specialist is on the cards - I carry my babies very low also - this baby has made itself very comfie on the bladder - exactly like it's Big Brother so I'm hoping (fingers and toes crossed) that, that is the only problem and that the bleed is just one of those things - either way just trying to stay positive and not panic

    Hi Dianna
The High risk clinic is the best place to go as they have experience looking after complicated pregnancy's. I also go to the high risk clinic. Yesterday I was seen by the head Dr.

You will find as you progress in the pregnancy they will be very helpful.

    Hope all goes well

Thanks Chris - unfortunately I was High Risk last time around also - different issue - I think I was kidding myself thinking that I might have an easy run this time - I've got fingers crossed and heaps of prayers that everything will work out
