Hi everyone I am currently 35weeks and 2 days doctor ordered an ultrasound today as I am measuring two weeks behind.
Had the ultrasound this morning the ultrasound tech scared me a bit said that I look to small and asked if I had noticed any gushes (which I haven't). So I am presuming low amniotic fluid, rang my doctors this afternoon but he said he wont have any results until tomorrow afternoon.
I was hoping to hear what happens when you have low amniotic fluid? I am NOT going to google it because I know I will scare myself
I had low fluid all through DS2 at 38 weeks I was induced. In hind sight I wouldnt let them do that again- with out a scan on the day.
All through that pregnancy I was told to drink a lot of water, everyday 10 glasses and to eat chinese dates- stew them with water and sugar and drink the soup/ eat the dates, everyday (perhaps a local chinese grocery will have these?)
There are measurements for the fluid- did they tell you what you are? in the last tri anywhere from 5-25cm is normal.
What else did dr tell you? Do you go back in a week for another scan or tests etc?
My friend had this & they induced her at 38 weeks. They told her that they were expecting her to have a small baby. They were surprised when her lovely baby girl was 6 pound 11.
Best of luck. Pregnancy can give us so much anxiety.
I had it both times. They actually measure the fluid when they do the ultrsound. Both times they told me to take it easy (lol) not smoke (i don't) and keep up fluids. I don't think there's anything you can do - and there's certainly nothing you have done to cause it.
I was told the reason for the 'concern' is that there is no cushioning for the cord so it can get more easily damaged?
I was booked for an induction at 40 + 2( i said no way to going any earlier) and DS1 arrived of his own accord at 40 weeks. Almost no fluid left, but he was fine. With DS2 the Ob took great pleasure in showing everyone - look, i told you so he said. Typical Ob.
So the low amniotic fluid was annoying because i kept having to have u/s to check, but in the end it had no effect on the outcome.
ETA - i was told I was having little babies and one was 7.11 and the other 7.3, so not little at all.
Dont let them "scare" you into being induced like I did. DS2 was 3 kg, thats an ok size and for the body type he is thats actually really good. When they do the scans they can check on babys organs etc. It may mean more monitoring but hopefully you have a birthing team that will support keeping baby in as along as you can- hopefully til baby decides its time
Really good, the doctor just is keeping me going in 2 times a week bubs and belly still growing he believes fluid is still getting lower but not to dangerous levels that we need to act. I have another ultrasound next week at 38 weeks so will drop in then again but fingers crossed I'm gonna go to term!!!! If doc changes his mind I will quickly get a second opinion with a backup doc
