I am 38 weeks and 2 days pregnant (due Dec 22nd). Since July i had noticed a lump under my arm in the armpit. I have read and heard of many stories of how this is very common due to the milk and changing hormones. Just last weekend however I found another lump which feels more like a pea shape. It is only slightly tender if I poke the area too much.
I went to my GP on Monday and he is sending me for an ultrasound and possibly a fine needle biopsy of the lumps. He suggested it could just be an infection in the gland but to check it out just to be safe. I can not get in for the ultrasound until Friday afternoon. This will mean i am almost 39 weeks pregnant. Then the results may not come in for a couple of working days the following week.
I am really stressed about this. One being that i am so late in my pregnancy and am anxious enough about my first labour experience, and two being that if this is in fact something serious, could my breast feeding be affected? Finally, if this turns out to be serious, should i not bother breast feeding and just use formula from the start due to the potential disruption to my baby if i have to go on medication or have surgery or have radiation?
I know i am jumping the gun and thinking the worst (which is probably those lovely pregnancy hormones coming out). Has anyone else been through something similar or have some advice on starting/stopping breastfeeding?
Don't know if this helps but we all have lymph glands under our arms....when I have a cold coming on or my body is going through a stressful time I get tender lumps under boths arms. They are both very visible and tender to touch but the right arm is always the worst, and I am right handed. They are very clearly under my arms and not on my breasts.
I dose up on my vitamins and rest a LOT and they go down.
Maybe something similar? I know it has nothing to do with breastfeeding but if you're a bit stressed out at the moment it might explain it.
It turns out that the lumps are normal breast tissue growing up under my armpit. I had the ultrasound and the doctor was not concerned at all, but boy was I a mess!
OH renson, glad its all ok. Any lump in that general area is full justification for a panic attack IMO.
there is someone here in BB who has posted pics of their armpit with bigs lumps in it. sorry i cant remember who... but the lumps actually get bigger for this person as milk production begins.
maybe do a search or check the galleries... sorry i cant remember.
