I would imagine you would be higher risk because of the borderline result for GD, and also because of your past eating disorder because during and after pregnancy you are more likely to suffer a relapse of such a condition. However I've never heard of medium risk before, usually a person if either high risk or low risk, so I don't know what your OB will recommend. It may be something as simple as extra monitoring in pregnancy with no change of birthing options. My advice would be to write down a list of questions including exactly why you have been classified as higher risk and what this will mean so that you don't forget to ask anything in your next appointment.
It could well be the ED. I continuously have the fight that my pelvis is not adequate enough to birth because I suffered from anorexia for 7 years as a teen and was extremely underweight for most of that time.
Thanks ladies.
I will be really disappointed if it is because I had anorexia, although at least I can relax knowing there isn't an immediate health risk. The Ed was related to an event which I have dealt with and I truly have been healthy for all my adult life. I don't mind if they want to monitor me for relapse (I'm a psychologist so can very well see the importance) but don't want to be written off for it. It is only the last few years that my family have stopped watching me every meal time and accepted that I am doing well, I don't want to have to prove myself to dr's and really don't know what more I could do to prove things anyway.
If it is the borderline gd, I have been monitoring it the past week and have kept levels below 8 except for when I ate ice cream so should be able to show that I can mange things. Again though, hapy to have extra monitoring just want to know where I stand and don't want unneeded scare tactics.
Indadhanu that must be really frustrating for you.
Just thought I would update in case anyone else ever gets a 'medium risk' letter.
I saw my ob today and he said they call it medium so you can still have the baby locally but with extra monitoring rather than going to the bigger women's hospital. He actually couldn't see why the referral had ben made and thinks it came from the midwife I saw. She miss understood the fertility treatment I had and wrote 'ovulation induction using injections on one form' but ivf on another. My ob suspects the hospital viewed an ivf pregnancy as a higher risk as whilst the gd is borderline and my thyroid over active I don't need medication for anything so he can't see why I would need to be classed as medium risk. I have a booking in appointment at the hospital on Monday so hoping with my ob's help we can get the label taken away.
