I went to my Dr today for my 8 month check-up and when I stepped on the scale I was told I am down 7 pounds since last month's visit. Now I'm not really surprised I lost a little this month as this past few weeks (on top of morning sickness) I had both food poisoning and the stomach flu, but 7 pounds seemed like a lot. The part the worries me is that since I have been suffering from morning sickness my entire pregnancy (despite medication), I had only put on 9 pounds before this loss, which means in 8 months of pregancy I have only put on 2 pounds! I was not exactly skinny to begin with (so I have some extra weight to spare) but I'm not hugely overweight either. Do you think the baby is getting enough? I stupidly read up about weight loss in pregnancy and am now worried about the baby developing properly becasue I haven't gained anything. Has anyone else lost weight in pregnancy and gone on to have a healthy baby? I eat mostly healthy foods, (just a few treats here and there) but I just can't seem to eat very much of anything before I feel sick or full. If I force myself to eat anymore than I do now I know I'll just throw it back up again.
I know lots of people who've lost weight in pg and had healthy bubs.
Generally in australia most carers don't weigh women at all in pg unless there another issue, because it's not really relevant
Don't force yourself to eat just so you put on weight. With my first two I list weight and this time I have put on 3 kilos in 7 months. My dr isn't worried either way as the girls were healthy.
You guys have made me breathe a sigh of relief. It's good to know there are others who lost wieght in pregnancy and still had healthy babies. It's not like I'm dieting or anything, I just can't eat a lot. My doctor thought it strange I was losing instead of gaining but he didn't seem too worried, I guess I worried myslef
I never gained any weight in the first half of my twin pregnancy, and I was similarly concerned but, as my OB put it, "babies are parasites, they'll get what they need". Lovely image but anyway the point is, your baby will be fine as long as you are eating and drinking. Weight loss in pregnancy is only discouraged due to the fear of women going on crazy diets when their babies are developing AFAIK.
