I actually got it on day 5 post birth...![]()
yeah i heard some get it after, how long did it last for?
yes it was very terrible for me, i couldnt sleep, my whole body felt like it was burning, i couldnt wear clothes, i had to shower several times a day and apply all kinds of lotions and creams and powders, DP actually made ME go and sleep on the couch so i wouldnt wake him with my constant itching and crying..
And my 'Dr' didnt even tell me what it was, when i saw him he said "oh that could be anything, its probably heat rash or something" (i was living in darwin at the time *HOT*) He did prescribe me 2 tubes of steroid cream which wasnt nearly enough, it took one whole tube just to cover my whole body! I bought every kind of rash and itch releiving product from the chemist and just had to wait it out. It wasnt until i moved to vic and was seeing a dr about my second pregnancy when i only described what the symptoms were he instantly knew what it had been. I had read about PUPPS on the internet after my initial dr couldnt provide me any answers and figured that was what it would be..
i wouldnt wish it on ANYONE
nope me either. I actually thought I had the measeles lol.
Only lasted about 3 days thank goodness, i guess it was just all the hormone being released before it died down.
Hi, I'm new here, but am dealing with something like Pupps, but without the itch??? Did anyone have anything like that?
I know that there are similar pregnancy rashes to this but not as severe with the itching etc,
Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP). A rash that typically begins as small raised bumps (papules) within the stretch marks on a woman?s abdomen. It is the most common skin rash that occurs during pregnancy, affecting between one in 160 and one in 300 pregnant women.
Prurigo of pregnancy. A rash linked to abnormal blood hormone levels, particularly elevated levels of gonadotropins and lower levels of cortisol and estrogen. This type of skin rash affects between one in 300 to one in 450 pregnant women.
Pruritic folliculitis of pregnancy. A condition so similar to prurigo of pregnancy that some experts do not distinguish between the two types of rash. This rash resembles steroid-induced acne and most often affects the trunk of a woman?s body. The incidence of pruritic folliculitis of pregnancy is unknown.
Pemphigoid gestationis. A blistering disease that occurs in one in every 1,700 to one in every 50,000 pregnant women.
Sometimes antihistimines will help, but for me they did nothing but make me to sleepy to move which meant i was unable to itch and that was AWFUL lol
Thanks. All the rashes that I have researched indicate itching as part of the symptoms...
*puts hand up* oh hell yes.
I developed it about four weeks ago when I suddenly got stretchmarks - I had NONE the whole time, then BAM! Started with the stretchmarks turning red, then retting itchy, then raised... and spread from there. it ended up on the tops of my thighs (made my skin rough like an elephants!) all down the backs of my legs, under my arms, and all over my belly.
On the bright side, I think I may have actually beaten it! No-one seems to know exactly what causes it (many theories) so I asked a few of my learned colleagues (lol) (I'm a naturopath, by the way) and we all agreed that if similar symptoms appeared in someone who wasn't pregnant, we would assume it was possibly a liver imbalance, and also endeavour to treat the symptoms individually. The following is NOT advice to anyone, just what I tried:
1) Fish oil - like, high doses. 6-8 capsules a day. Good anti inflammatory
2) dandelion root extract. Three doses a day - a liver detoxer
3) beta carotene - the non-toxic version of vitamin A, safe during pregnancy. 3-4 a day
4) and lastly, liquid zinc, three doses a day
the first few days didnt make any difference, but after that the symptoms started to disappear, and not they've almost completely gone! My tummy looks normal again, the skin on top of my thighs is becoming normal, and the lumps and bumps in other places are fading. I still get a bit of residual itch on one of two places, but NOTHING like the screaming-insane itch of before. And sometimes I can go the whole day without scratching!
Just thought I'd share this.![]()
