One thing I found out was that the "slapped cheek" look (the redness) appears when the person is no longer contageous... so, by then, it's too late - kind of like chicken pox.

My nephew has slap cheek and only after reading this post last night did I realise that I had been exposed.
I spoke with my GP today who said that any risk is relatively low after 20 weeks, but is sending me for a blood test......
Its all a bit scary... now i am worried. I dont think there is a great level of awareness of the effects this virus can have on pregnant women. I was aware of rubella etc - but not slap cheek
