New here - SCH after ivf

Hi, I am new to this message board. I have had a rough year. I had one natural m/c; an iui cycle that resulted in nothing; a second iui cycle that resulted in a chem. preg.; and currently an ivf cycle that I am preg. from, but now have SCH. I don't know how much more I can take.

I am currently 6w and very worried. I started bleeding on Wed. night last week, after DH went to work. There was so much blood, I thought it was another m/c. I had an u/s the next day and it was SCH. The RE put me on bedrest and told me to drink a lot of water. Other then that, there is nothing to do - I was told - but to wait and see. I hate that let's wait and see approach. My next appt. is thurs. this week.

Any advice on how to keep your sanity while on bedrest? I am just so worried about another m/c. I have no living children (just the m/c) and I feel like this is my last chance to have a baby of my own.

    Thanks for listening,
    Natasha

    Hi there

I can only share my recent experience which has turned out well so far. As you can see from my post I bled between 6 and 7 weeks, then at 12 weeks. But I had my 12 week scan and the perinatalist said everything looks fine now and that the SCH had bled out and hopefully I wont have any more problems. Baby is growing great and all looks good. I might go on that holiday to Bali afterall.

I didn't really do the bedrest thing, just took it a bit easy.

It is so hard Iknow and frightening and isolating but I took some comfort in the thought that there is really nothing I could do.

I hope it all turns out well for you. If you have a obstetrician just keep asking to be scanned to reassure you all is OK with bubs. Mine got a bit annoyed with me but I dont care - it helped get me through.

    Take care

    Jess

Hi Jess, Thanks for the encouragement. I see from your signature that you are due in April and did ivf. We are not that far apart. I am due in May and also did ivf. I am glad the SCH bled out and all is fine now. That is reassuring news.
    Take care,

    Hi Natasha and Jess

I also have this condition from an IVF pregnancy (our 10th attempt). I started spotting at 7.5 weeks but they were not at all concerned about this. I had a bleed at 9.5 weeks, a bigger bleed at 11 weeks and my biggest bleed yet last night. US shows bub is fine, bouncing around and normal growth etc but there is a clot approx 4 cm at the edge of the placenta I'm so terrified. I want this baby so much. I know there is nothing I can do but hope and rest. Nice to know others are feeling the same thing.

    Me too....

Hi. After reading this fourm thread for the past couple of months, Ive finally decided to reply with my own story...Mainly because Ive found it to be the best, most reassuring information I have recieved about this! Im currently 17weeks.

I had a HUGE haemorrhage at 11 weeks. Was certain of miscarriage- but was a bright red, clearish liquid that gushed, then kind of stopped just as quickly. ER told me to go home (was at night) and even though cervix was closed, to expect to miscarry overnight- they thought Id lost too much blood. But morning came, had ultrasound and bubba was fine!

Same thing happened exactly one week later- at school (Im a teacher) Although this time it was a bit brownish to begin, but became bright red. Doctor thought my cervix was opening- suggesting imminent miscarriage - my husband resigned ourselves again with loss-but again Ultrasound showed bubs was fine! This time a very small haemorrhage and slight separation in chorionic and amionic membranes to allow for path of blood from edge of placenta to cervix.

Same thing happened exactly one week later- but was less and more brownish- and has continued over the last 3 weeks consistently. It has begun to lessen, however, and Im feeling hopeful.
Had another ultrasound before Obst visit last week. The membranes still show separation and slight thickening- suggesting blood still travelling out. The Obst. was completely unhelpful and unable to tell me a thing. He baulked at the fact I had done my own research into suchorionic haem. myself, telling me that an English teacher didnt have the expertise to evaluate the information

Im heartened by reading that only about 5% of cases end in miscarriage. The larger the haemorrhage, the greater the risk. Many women on forums here and elsewhere claim that it is best for bleeding to become brownish over weeks- new bright red gushes arent a great sign, but many seem to have multiple cases and still be ok. Ultrasounds can show if bleeding is retroplacental (behind placenta)- this increases risk of miscarriage to %50 due to placental abruption- but after 24weeks the bub can usually survive if preterm labour occurs due to this.

American docs tend to recommend bedrest, My Obst. called this old fashioned, unecessary amd supported by no evidence. Im taking a middle road- Im still working full time, but have stopped running, mowing with a pushy, yoga and helping my hubby owner build until the bleeding stops. It almost has for now. I think Ill give it another week....

I have to have another scan at 20 weeks, so fingers crossed for everything to be clearer up!

My GP has certainly been my best support, and has repeatedly told me to be positive and to be aware that I dont really have any control over what happens next. Our bodies are amazing and tend to do whats best for us, so trust in that and be kind to yourselves if you are experiencing similar things.
Thanks for the posts everyone. I hope to have a success story to add in the future too

    Subchorionic hematoma

Hi. I have just been diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma at 6 weeks pregnant. I have had one masive bleed, no clots but lots of red blood. I had an ultrasound and there was my little precious beating away at 106 hbm. But I had a large hematoma of 3.5 cm long x 3 cm wide tapering to 0.5 cm. The bleeding stopped and I thought that it may be all over, but a couple of days later it started again. Not as bad as the first but still bad. I had a second u/s and bub is still beating away at 120 hbm. I am so scared I'm go to loss this baby. The doc tells me there is nothing I can do but wait and rest but i just cant sit and wait. I have another u/s in 2 weeks and it is killing me to wait. Please can someone tell me if my hematoma is a large one and what my odds are on this pregnancy going to term.
    Thankyou Sally

    Hi Sally,
What I was told from my dr. was that as long as the heamatoma did not cause the placenta to come away completly from the wall that I would be fine, mine was quite large when they found it at around 14wks but over the next 4-8wks it did start to shrink and eventually reabsorb which allowed the placenta to reattach.
My Dr. basically told me to go home and relax as there was not much that could be done, if i was going to miscarry it was inevetable, thankfully i didn't and my little boy will be 3yrs in a few weeks.
