Unhappy Itchy rash at 6 weeks pregnant

    Hello,

I am currently 7 weeks pregnant and I have broken out into an itchy, scratchy rash!

Here I was thinking I would be 'glowing' but no, just bumpy, red and very very itchy. 'Tis unfortunately very unsightly - and the last thing I want to do is scare small children.

I am itchy from shoulders to ankles - with what looks like a heat rash. But I usually have very little allergic reactions and have hardly ever had heat rash (it's not even that hot in Sydney). It sometimes gets better on one leg- but then seems to get worse on an arm or the other leg.

As it's early days, my GP and I don't think it's PUPPPS, I have eliminated cosmetics and creams, I'm using calamine (does bugger all), cold compresses, Pinetarsil shower gel (works OK, makes me smell like I have engaged in road works) and a small amount of hydro-cortisone.

Has anyone else experienced this at all so early in pregnancy? Did you ever identify any causes? Or is it just 'one of those things'? Any advice would be great as I am really worried that this will last for a while as my hormones continue to be whipped into a frenzy!! Heelllllpppp!

I havent experienced the same symptoms but a good friend of mine did when she was pregnant with her DD 4 years ago. Her condition was related to her liver as she has suffered problems with her liver ever since being born as a premmie bub. Her rash started literally from the moment she fell pregnant and didnt disappear for a month after her DD birth. Sorry i can't be of any more help. Have u tried milk baths? I've heard that they can be a relief for itchy skin.

    Thanks for the advice.

The rash lasted for about two weeks and then disappeared!!Liver OK through blood tests etc. So far three weeks rash free. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

    Cheers,

I just found your post!! I had about the same thing at the same time.
It started with an little itcy around my neck. In about three days it was on my tummy, my hips, my thighs, my neck, shoulders, breast and some on my back. I cried constantly because it was soooo sore and itched like crazy and NOTHING I put on helped. I also thought it was heat rash, but highly unlikely because it was winter So I gave the washing powder the fault and changed powders, but still it did not go away.
I am not allergic to anything and DON'T have a sensitive skin. After a week DH could not take me moaning and crying and b!tching about it and nothing the dr's or the pharmacist gave me worked. I made an appointment with the dermatologist. She put it down to a lot of things, but mainly an allergic reaction to something. Vauge was at the order of the day!! Cost me about R 800.00 (meds excluded)
I washed myself with this icky-gel-petroleum-gooooey stuff for about three days (NO PERFUME!!! EWWW), while on low-dose cortisone and then it vanished!!! So yeah, all in all about two weeks of rash and then just suddenly dissapeared. still what it was, never happend again.
I was not born prem either, so nothing wrong with my liver ALTHOUGH I might add that I developed HELLP later in pregnancy that ended my in my beautifull daughter being born at 34 weeks. Don't think that it was as a result of that rash, but HELLP has to do with your liver, so that was interessting to read Sugar's post.

Hope you the best of luck in you pg - ENJOY!!
