    varicose veins very sore

I developed a varicose vein in my third pregnancy which just appeared and never gave me any trouble. When pregnant with Scout it became more pronounced and darkened in colour but again was not sore at all.
All the midwives asked if it hurt and offered me support stockings because it looked like it should be sore but it really wasnt.
Today however I have been in pain all day. It is really sore and stingy almost. It is sore to touch and it is making me limp.
I have had my feet up where I can for most of the day, have been gently trying to massage it and for the last hour I have had a hot water bottle on it which is giving me some relief but I think I am just about at the drug stage. I dont like to take anything while im pregnant but this sucks.
Any ideas what i else I can try?

Just keep putting your feet up when you can and try not to be on your feet too much Easier said than done though with your busy household!

Take some panadol if it's really painful and try an ice pack. I iced mine a bit and felt it helped.

    Hugs,

I have got this in my 3rd preg so i know the pain your in! mine started hurting at 8wks preg! i have the stockings which are great if i know im going to be walking around heaps they do help alot but are a Pain in the butt to get on! I also use a cream called hiradoid, it can be bought in a chemist without probs. its used for raised painful scars and scar tissue and veins.

Unfortunetely it wont go away but it can be controlled by putting your legs up above your hips when you feel the pain coming on, 15mins sitting normally controls mine.

best of luck and hope it doesnt cause too many probs for you

Witchhazel on a cloth and applied to the area can help.

The only thing that really worked for me was having my feet up xoxoxo

thank you heaps for all your suggestions but fingers crossed it seems to have settled down.
I guess it was the inital increase in blood supply and has now got used to it. I dont have the pain anymore thank goodness but it is still bulgy and gross looking. It is also really dry and itchy but that is probably just the time of year too. Nothing a bit of moisturiser wont help.
I will keep your suggestions in mind though in case we have a flair up again.
    thanks again

the witchazel helps with the itch too. You can get it at the chemist, it might pay to have some on hand, cos (sorry) it certainly will flare up again as the preg progresses. xoxoxo
