sorry no advice here but know my SIL get this type of sympton the day before labour!
Ok, so just putting this out there incase its happened to anyone else and others may have any theories.
In my pregnancies with the girls (including this one which is said to be a girl) I get sick with gastro like symptoms. So I get the runs, vomiting, shaking uncontrollably, my heart pounds like anything, and I feel hot and sweat etc - all the good stuff. It starts at night between midnight and 3am, and lasts for a few hours, and then goes away. Then the next day, I get what feels like a searing pain in waves near my right rib.
Most of which sounds like my gallbladder is having "issues".
So I did some googling, cut out excess fat from my diet, had no attacks for a week and a half, gave into temptation with two small boxes of smarties (you know, the fun packs?) and that night, I was sick again.
And the next night. And the next night. However, the only difference is that I only got the runs, heart rate increase and uncontrollable shaking. Lasts for about 2-3 hours. And no searing pain the next day.
I went to a doc today to get a diagnosis. He's put me in the "odd" category. Said it didn't fit in with the symptoms of gallbladder issues. My gallbladder wasn't tender when he touched it. My blood pressure was fine, urine was fine and clear of any nasties (I'm over 34 weeks pregnant) so he's stumped as to what is wrong with me.
He asked if I had IBS. I told him I did during my 20's but all symptoms stopped when I got pregnant with DS and never came back - so thats over 4 years ago. Plus - I only ever had the runs with IBS, never the shakes, vomiting, increased heart rate etc.
So I've had to give a poo sample (which is always lovely to participate in) and he's written a referral to get an ultrasound done, just to rule out any gallbladder issues (which he's pretty sure its not anyway).
Sooo... any ideas? Or am I really "odd" like he says I am?![]()
sorry no advice here but know my SIL get this type of sympton the day before labour!
I felt like that when i was in pre labour... not all at once on seperate occasions. Especially the shakes, the runs and the hot and cold.. i was told it was normal. But i dont ever recall having the searing pain in my ribs.. though i could have had it and just blamed bub..![]()
I tend to agree with your doc. Just a case of you being a little odd.
But really, I have no idea but wanted toyou. Hopefully only another 3 weeks of this.. right? come on bubba lol
Definitely not pre-labour unfortunately, I get it randomly all throughout the pregnancy. Even from say, 8 weeks.
I had it a lot at the end of DD2's pregnancy, and I'm afraid that I'll be up several hours a night on the toilet for another 6 weeks!! I can't handle it!! I need my sleep.
Although, the good news is I have lost 3kg in 2 weeks.. LOL
oh mel, wish i could help but i wouldn't have a clue....hopefully the dr can find something that is soo minimal or it is just pregnancy related
I have the tenderness under my ribs, runs and sweating symptoms. Dr wasn't too concerned. Maybe you aren't so odd lol
Its not just tenderness, its a searing pain, like someone is driving a knife into the top of my belly (well bump - you know!) but its right where my right ribs are... which is why we all suspected gallbladder stuff. And the pain comes in waves, lasting for about half a day.
God, maybe I am odd.. not just mentally.. but physically too!!!!![]()
That's describing exactly the pain I feel. I thought I'd pulled something badly at first but then I realised a strain just didn't feel like that. There was no tenderness when the Ob pressed on it so she wasn't concerned.
Maybe we are both odd![]()
I wouldnt rule out gall bladder just yet, I had pains they were in my front and in my back and they were searing and came is waves. I got the sweating and the runs. I went to emergency 4 times and they never once thought of gallbladder. I went to a GP that I had never seen before as I was in such a bad way and she sent me for a untrasound and there was at least 12 stones in my bladder and it was huge. She sent me straight to hossy and I ended up having emergency surgery that night.
Before that I had a few mild attacks after DD was born but nothing huge and obviously it was an issue for a while as I had a heap of stones! But I never had any issues or symptoms before the huge attack.
I hope for your sake it isnt as its really not fun!
For what its worth I also suffer from seveare IBS (gee im fun arnt I!!) and I get the bad pain and the runs and the sweats and the vomiting! Especially when preg! Soo I guess it could be either or something else!
Hope you feel better soon babe! xox
Yep you are odd!!!!!!!!!!!!
But we love you LOL
Sorry no advice, I found my IBS was better in pregnancy!
Hope you find out soon
have you tried taking probiotics? improving the good bacteria in there?
I straight away thought gall bladder or gall stones. My cousin had similar pain to you (that you described) - like a knife through her stomach, out her back. Turned out she had gall stones
Sorry youre feeling this hun.
Only thing i can add is, maybe whatever it is, if it is IBS.. its flaring up while youre pregnant because you have alot lower immune system during that time and bubs is sucking all of your good levels away iykwim.
Im normally a target when it comes to mozzies, but whenever pregnant if i get bitten, they turn into large dark red bubble welts and sometimes get infected. Doctors have said its because i have a lot lower immune system to fight anything off. So maybe whatever it is is the same for you.
Havent really given you any answers as to what it is, but maybe why it is.
Hope can figure it out![]()
My money is on gallstones, so I'm glad you've been referred for an ultrasound. The pain is caused when the area goes into a spasm, it goes in waves, and while I never had the runs myself, it makes sense that if one part of the digestive tract is spasming the other end could go in sympathy too.
Before you have your next attack, find out whether Buscopan is safe for use in pregnancy. It is a medication that specifically works on decreasing spasming pain through your digestive system, I only found out how well it worked just before i had my surgery. Wish I'd known months before. Whatever you do, don't take anything with codeine in it as it can set the spasm off by itself.
MD - DH thinks its gallstones still I think, cos of the stuff we've googled and thinks the doc was a total tosser. And I think I've looked once before that buscopan can't be taken during pregnancy, doctor told me to get immodium (which I practically lived on when I had IBS until a doc prescribed me codeine so I took a LOT of that instead to bung me up) so hopefully (fingers crossed) I get in for a scan tomorrow and get this sorted out.
I'm thinking I'll go to a scanning place at the private hospital, its more exxy, but greater odds of someone there taking the time to explain stuff to me AND get in on the same day. I just want it to end, and I hate hate HATE the fact that I'm feeling this at the end of my last ever pregnancy. I just want the pregnancy to end because I don't get this stuff when I'm not pregnant![]()
