I had a stutter as a teenager. It was less of a stutter and more of a silence where I just couldn’t get the words out. I still have it a bit when speaking with my mother or sister and feeling under pressure. Mine was more a mental problem though – everything I said was ignored, dismissed or deemed “stupid” so part of me stopped wanting to speak around these people. Once I realised the underlying cause (and moved out) then it slowly stopped.

I tend to deal with it now, when it occurs, by just laughing and saying “oh, what happened to my mind since having DS!” and letting it go. Not very honest, I know, but safest for me.
