Big toe nail not growing and painful

my Big toe nail on my right foot is not growing- hasn't since I cut them 4mths ago- I only noticed because the base of the nail under the skin is extremely sore, there is no redness or swelling though just very painful and of course stange that it hasn't grown.

What could this be and what can I do about it?

I had the same thing happen when I was pg with DS2 back in early '07, my big toe nail stopped growing. It started growing again after he was born, but it was a new nail underneath and it slowly pushed the non-growing one up until I eventually cut it all off (this took a LONG time). I thought that was it, but nope! It is happening all over again AND is happening to the big toe on my other foot . Apparently it could be a kind of fungus (I Googled, haven't asked a Dr ). It might be worth chatting to your GP? I know I should . If I find out any more info I'll let you know.

Thanks, yeah i tried googling and come up with nothing. No decent dr's around here so haven't bothered going. Hopefully it does grow out. I keep thinking maybe it's growing in reverse lol
