if you put a bandage or splint on it, it will reduce the pain so that you can function. the best thing i've had is, like ange said, deep tissue massage to help release the nerve bundle. i get it frequently due to having surgery on my wrist, so i have learnt to release it myself. you may find it hurts like a biatch when it's massaged (though mine may be painful due to the surgery i've had and the resultant scar tissue that i have there) - but when it has released, and the ouchies from the probing settle, the relief is awesome.

if you can get your wrist stabilised, the pain in your fingers should ease a fair bit

if you're still having trouble before the xmas meet up, let me know and i'll bring a spare splint with me that you can take home - i sometimes find that i only need it strapped for a day or so so that the inflammation goes down - so you can have it on hand at home...
