Exclamation eye scratch - any nurses?

My toddler poked me right in the eye today by accident and I felt his little nail go right under the eye lid. I washed it out and it feels uncomfortable now like I have grit in my eye. Also I should mention I flicked up some dirt into the same eye this morning which was probably contaminated with wombat poo or urine (don't ask!). So I have washed it out with water and am now wondering on what I should do. I over worry about this kind but don't want to head off only to wait for ages at the hospital.
    Help!!

I am not a nurse but work in the eye field. You may have a scratched cornea, you will need to check that it isnt as it gets nasty especially if you pick up an infection.

Yep - a scratched cornea is a strong possibility and a course of chlorsig / chloromycetin ointment or drops may be needed. Get checked ASAP

My siste once managed to get a paper cut on one of her eyes (don't ask me how!)... She had it checked out by an optician and they just said to give it a few weeks and they'd check it again by which time it had healed itself!

My DD got me a good one in the eye about 12mths ago - it was so painful!! Went to ED and they cheked it and I had a badly scratched cornea - and yep, a course of chlorsig drops and that was it! The eye heals really well and quite fast. Was sore a few days and watery but got better really quick! Good Luck!
