Genetic testing for breast cancer?

My mum's mum had breast cancer and my mum died of an ovarian cancer which was actually a type of breast cancer. Because of this I was allowed to be referred to westmead hospital to get this testing done and have counselling, because it is free its a long wait for an appointment- sadly for me my grandma died the week of the appt- before it and the genetic testing cannot be done without the blood sample of a relative who has survived the disease so although I was offered counselling there was no way to do the testing.
They were only interested in me for testing because I had direct female relatives with the disease- its more likely to be passed from mother to daughter, also grandma'smum had died in the 40s of cancer of the uterus which could easily have been the same sort of cancer so being in the direct line of all these cancers was pretty scary for me and still is.
I would be much less concerned BJ cause its your dad's side but I understand your fears.

Thanks Mrsmac. It never really occured to me TBH. Its mum's idea. She would rather us be prepared for what could be ahead IYKWIM. Especially since my sis already has similar problems.
I'm sorry your Grandma passed when she did

No worries BJ, yes it was sad but she was 92, my mum sadly had already died at just 61.
