I posted awhile ago about a burning pain I have been getting in my tummyand have only just got results back to tell me what is wrong. I have a reducible indirect right inguinal hernia. I was naughty and opened my ultrasound results before going to the doctor. So my question is has anyone had a hernia before and how was it treated? It says something about surgery in the report which has kinda freaked me out. Any advice would be much appreciated.
You poor chook. Surgery is one of the most common forms of treatment for inguinal hernia's. It is a relatively simple proceedure (been a while since I partook in one so memory a little fuzzy). They make an incision and cut as much of the hernia away as possible then put a mesh in and sew the muscle and skin back together. All done under a GA and minimal recovery time. Very common though. I recall doing 4 in one day. Sorry I can't give more detail - as I said, it has been awhile. Your GP will need to refer you to a surgeon. I have a brilliant General Surgeon in Melbourne if you are in Vic. I'm not 100% sure if he does this kind of surgery but as a general surgeon I would imagine he would. If you want his details I'll PM them to you.
