We were told that if hehad the hypospadias depending on the degree it would be 2 ops and obviously the degree was worse than anticipated so couldn't do all at once the first op to do what they did took bout 2.5 hours and he was 12 mths 2 weeks.
I had a look today and it still has stitches nut now the swelling is going down the work is quiet neat and I suppose they will tidy up even more next time.
I think what I really want to know is what will they make the uretheras tube out of??? We have 3 mths till next apt as he said Friday he can't do anything till it heals so unless he can't wee and there's a problem to wait till then
I don't know what they used to create my son's urethra, but it wasn't the foreskin (he only had foreskin at one side so they used it all to stretch around and create a complete foreskin) and they must have used something as his hypospadias was quite severe and came out less than halfway down the penis. Hmm, probably something I should have asked at the time!
they told us they would use a small plastic tube if they needed to , hope that helps, only about 1cm long, and it would be deep inside so he wouldn't feel it
I know this is an old thread but just wondered if anyone who had their child's hypospadias repaired suffered from a subsequent fistula and how this was diagnosed? My son is recently toilet trained and he pees at a funny angle. If he pees sitting down then the pee kinda goes backwards, and if he is standing up it goes straight down (not out the front iyswim). I am concerned he is urinating out of a fistula and the urine is then travelling through the created forekin before coming out. My other thought is that there is a lot of forskin at the tip of his penis so maybe there is too much and he needs it trimmed (shudder) or even a circumcision.
I will be making an appointment with a urologist asap but just wondered if anyone else has noticed this in their child many months after the original operation?
Hi I'm really sorry I can't help on this one. We have just had a 3 mth remove from our intitial operation and go back in may to get our next operation date to have the tube inserted.
I hope someone else can answer your question if you have not already been seen by dr.
I am still waiting for my appointment with the urologist, but he saw a paed today and there is no fistula. He does still have some curving of the penis, which is probably what is causing the angled pee, but she doubts it will cause him any problems long term.
