I went to one as a child. I was knocked out a few times as a child in soccer, and then had febrile convulsions whilst with fever in between so the go suggested I get checked properly just in case.
I had to have 2 lots of CAT scans (I think that's right...is that the one where your head slides into the massive donut looking scanner...?) I also had X-rays of my neck and spine prior so he had copies of all these. I also had to have all my blood test results sent to him. That's all as far as paperwork that I recall.
At the visit he just went through all the questions about the circumstances, etc. he then did a series of tests, for vision, hearing etc. nothing too in depth.
Turns out the convulsions were just fever, and I ended up with post concussion syndrome so there was no follow up for me required.
I'd say if its something more serious there may be other things involved.
