Questions about Clomid

Hi girls,
Sorry I've been out of touch, on the way home from the docs on Tue my car engine blew up! Just what I needed...

Anyway,

Welcome Mandy! I hope all goes well for you on clomid. This is my second time on clomid, the first resulting in my son (he's almost 3) after 6 rounds across 9 months. This time I actually got pregnant first round (50mg) but had an early miscarraige. I'm now on 100mg and hoping for the best! The higher results for a boy are becasue we are generally instructed to have sex as close to ovulation as possible which increases the likelyhood of a boy. We are trying for a girl this time, so trying to time DTD for about 2 days before ovulation.

Stejen- how exciting is hearing the heartbeat?! It never gets less exciting. I'm glad you're going well. Like Kell asked, how come you are having scans every 4 weeks? Jst to check?

Nic- I'm sure you can't wait for the next scan! Good luck and keep us posted.

Kell- My cousin had real trouble with her back when I was pregnant, and she did some physio and wore a band thing under her tummy and around her back to support her back. She said it was a godsend. I bought one of those long pillows and that helped me. Hope you feel better soon.

AFM- Tuesday didn't quite go according to plan. The scan showed that the follie hadn't grown enough to induce ovulation so I have to go again on Monday:crying:. I am flying to Queensland on Monday morning (yah for holidays!!!), so I hope the shot doesn;t make me as sore as last time. Oh well. I am looking forward to just relaxing with hubby and DS for a couple of weeks, forgetting about the car (I hate cars...) and hopefully forgetting that I will be on the TTW! We'll see though. I may not be able to post anything while I'm away, so GOOD LUCK and HEALTH to you all, I look forward to hearing all about how you're all going when I get back.

nicole85- thanks for your advice was it safe for you to up your clomid by yourself? i will try the 100mg this month but I just wondering how much longer it will take. We been trying on the clomid now for 3 months just I think it's never goiung to work

Hey hun,

I figure that the dr would have put it up anyway to 150mg. My hubby and i really wanted a baby and have been trying for 18 mths so we both desided to just up it on our own. The maximum amount the dr would have let me take would have been 200mg (4 tablets / four months) so it is safe but if ur not to sure then dont do it or speak to ur dr :) ;) :) but hey it worked for us so our instinct was right . :) :) :)

I guess most of you have probably moved onto pregnancy groups...Hi from sunny queensland! I'm enjoying a quite restful TWW on hols with the fam, so hopefully thats a good thing. I ended up having the shot again (Kell, I asked for it in the end on your advice about your friend) so this is the second month I've needed it. Fingers crossed!
I hope you are all well, and scans/ appointments/ baby bumps are going as planned.

Hi everyone, just letting you know im up to day 14 so who knows if im ovulating not seen anything yet but fingers crossed soemthing happens soon. I took the 100mg and had some side effects such as hot flushes and really tired?????? Anyway I keep you guys posted on developments :)

Good luck Mandii! I'm currently 10DPO, so I'm waiting with baited breath to see if the dreaded period arrives next week as scheduled...

becnxavi- hey thanks for your positive wishes well yeah i'm due in two weeks so we will wait and see what happens but its so emotional and draining I can't believe this roller coaster ride I want it to stop! Well hopefully fingers crossed it will this month I keep you informed oh and good luck :)

Just thought i would update you on what is been going on. Well i had my EDD scan on wednesday and it was the most amazing thing i have ever seen.It was so cute our little miracle looked like a little peanut lol had a very stong heartbeat and my due date is 22nd of feb so its all very exciting :) My 12 week scan is on the 12th of aug :)

I stumble across your forum last night but could not work out how to post so hopefully this works..

Please let me first start by saying that your posts read somewhat like a novel!! I couldn't stop reading.. I just had to find out if Kell's pregnancy was going well :clap:, if Nicole could overcome her large ovary cyst :clap: and if anyone else had overcome their reproductive hurdles. Someone should make a movie bout this stuff!!

Anyway I think its great that there is a support for all of us going through this!

So a little about me..

I am 25 and have a 5 year old daughter. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16 and didn't have a period for three years before I fell pregnant with my daughter. My hubby and I have been trying for 4 years but have only just decided to step up the effort since Tyler started school. I recently lost 8 kilos and my periods have started coming regularly but still nothing! Grrrr... My fertility specialist prescribed serophene yesterday but now I have to wait till day 5 to begin.

In the meantime I would love to keep hearing about all of your successes and challenges

Mandii - Any news with you yet? I know the clomid ride can seem overwhelming & horrible at times but stick with it as it's worth every second of it when you get what you are wishing for & if it helps at all, I found that the longer I was on clomid & the higher the dose the easier it got. Nicole - I am just sooo excited for you, how fabulous is it to finally see peanut & know it's not all a dream? Im really glad that it all went well & that your bub is healthy & well, I bet you are hanging for the 12 week scan now? As for me, all seems to be going well so far which is great. Im 28 weeks now so im getting there slowly & im officially in the third trimester now which is a bit exciting, although im starting to resemble a ball hehe :bellygrowing:. Im having a 4D ultrasound done on the 26th July so im really looking forward to that.

I stumbled upon your forum last night and was stuck till 2am reading all of your posts.. what compelling reading!! I laughed, cried and smiled the whole way through!! Congrats to those ladies that are now expecting. It gives all of us facing reproductive hurdles a sense of hope!

A little about me: 4 years ttc, 1 five year old daughter, no monthlies for 4 years prior to that. I have lost 10 kilos in about 6 months and have now started getting fairly regular cycles but still no joy...grrr!!

My specialist prescribed serophene yesterday and now I have to wait for my next cycle. I finished just last week so am totally spewin that I have to wait!! I think my hubby is more impatient then me. lol

welcome Katie! Hopefully serephene works quickly for you, since your cycles are becoming regular, it might be just the kick you need! I've found this forum to be wonderful, it's great to have a place to share our story, and not feel like you're facing it alone.

Kell- 28 weeks? Gosh it only seemed like a week ago you went for the 20 week scan. Congrats on the 3rd trimester! I've heard the 4d scan is amazing.

Stejen- hope the morning sickness has abated a bit, and you're starting to feel better. Hope all is well!

Nic- Isn't the first ultrasound great? I never got over being amazed at seeing baby grow.

Mandii- How are you travelling hun? Don't get too down, it may take a while, but everything worth having does, right? This month might be your month, you never know!

AFM- Well my darn period arrived on time for the first time in 2 years! This is the first cycle I've started with a normal period. 3 months ago (when I started clomid) I induced a period with primolut, then 2nd month was the miscarraige, then straight from last month to this month without a period inbetween becasue the clomid didn't work last month! I will admit that I was a little shattered when I got it, but maybe a fresh start and cycle will do the trick. Oh, Kell, I forgot to say that I had the shot to make me ovulate again, so that seems to be my biggest problem, I get nice big follies, and then don't ovulate. Oh well, chin up, lets get on with this month!

Katieboo - Firstly welcome to our little support group, I hope it helps you as much as it did me!:D Oh I certainly know what you are talking about when you say you guys are getting impatient, I think that's the hardest part to deal with sometimes is all the waiting etc that you have to deal with to get the results, but at least now you are actively doing something to hopefully speed the process up. I think I felt much better once I was put on the clomid etc as I felt a little more in control of my infertility issues rather than wishing & hoping for it to happen naturally, so hopefully you are on the right track now to being a Mummy again. There really is some great success stories here in this forum so I hope we can be as supportive to you as everyone has been & continues to be for me :grouphug:. Congratulations on the weight loss too, that's fantastic & it can only help I guess! Good Luck & let us know how you go?

Bec - Sorry about the period, but on the other hand it really is quite exciting that you have finally got it on time & maybe it's a sign of things finally starting to get on track, because if you aren't getting your period & ovulating then it's not going to happen so that's a great thing. I remember when we were trying & nothing seemed to work for me so I had to keep bringing on a period with provera or just starting clomid without a period & it never worked & yet the one time I got my period on time I got pregnant that cycle so hopefully this is the start of great things for you guys;).

I'm hoping for the same thing! I start the next round of clomid today so here goes nothing. I agree with what you said about feeling more in control now I'm on clomid. Hubby suggested that we take a month of; it's my 30th birthday in August and he said why don't we wait untill after that, but I can't bear the thought of having to induce a perod becasue without the meds there is no telling when the next period might decide to visit! I think I'll do this month and then I'll rethink...

BTW-Katieboo: What dose of clomid are you starting on?

hi guys, Im on my 3rd round of clomid. I take them days 5 - 9.. I have seen some of u take it from day 2. Im interested to see if it makes any difference. Can someone tell me if u take it from days 2 to 6 when u should focus on intercourse. As at the moment im taking tabs from 5 to 9 and focus on days 11 to 14 for intercourse. Any advice????????
I also suffer extreme mood swings while on these tabs that have caused a few dramas within my relationship has anyone else suffered mood swings??????
And how long have u been on these tablets before falling pregnant????

Welcome Dell and Katie!! I know what you both mean about being inpatient, but I'm sure it will happen...and soon with the help of your doctors!! I fell pregnant on my second cycle of clomid at 150mg days 3-7.

Bec - I did the same as Kell and fell pregnant on the first cycle that I got my period without having to induce it with provera...so hopefully that is a good sign for you!!

AFM - Things are going good. It's been a while since I have had the chance to visit the site as I have been busy busy busy. My morning sickness....ahem...ALL DAY sickness...has not gotten much better. To tell you the truth I have been pretty miserable...dizzy, nauseous, and vomiting everyday...it hasn't been fun, but I'm now exactly 11 weeks so hopefully once I am out of the first trimester it will be better. I go for a scan on Friday and cannot wait to see how my little bean has changed! Even though I have been feeling pretty terrible I know it is going to be completely worth it!!

Dell - Welcome to our thread, I hope we can give you some usefull information regarding our experiences with clomid that hopefully will make you feel a bit better about your clomid journey as there are some great success stories here! Firstly I took clomid on days 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 of my cycle & my gynae/obs told us that we should be trying on every second day on days 10 through to day 20 or 22 just to cover our bases as some people ovulate earlier or later in their cycles than others. She told me that it's just a matter of the doctors preference in regards to starting the clomid on day 2 or 5 etc but said she found that a lot of her patients had success starting when they were actually at the start of a bleed. She also mentioned to me that having sex each day or more can hinder the sperm reaching the egg so we were better to try once every 2 days because you cover all your bases because the sperm take about 2 days to reach the egg so I think you guys should maybe start trying for a few days longer than you are now maybe. We tried for 18 months approx to get pregnant before we were put on the clomid & I had 4 rounds of clomid before I feel pregnant, the first round on 50mg, the second on 75mg, the third one on 125mg & the fourth on 175mg. The clomid didn't work for me at all until the final round, I still wasn't ovulating at all & when I did on the last round I fell pregnant, although I have PCOS which actually stopped ovulation for years in me. I understand how difficult it is to keep your spirits up, but I do truly believe in the power of positive thought & that it can make all the difference in falling pregnant, have you considered accupuncture or natruropathy at all to help with the mood swings & the stress associated with the clomid journey as that really worked wonders for me? What dose of clomid are you on now if you don't mind me asking? I hope that it all works out for you, make sure you let us know how you are going & we have everything crossed for you.

Bec - How are you feeling, have you decided one way or the other if you are going to have a break from the clomid for a month? Happy 30th by the way for August, what date is it as im in August too? I know what you mean about worrying about bringing a period on again if you have a break, I felt the same way & if it was me id probably do what you suggested & see how this round works out because if finally sounds like things might be starting to work for you guys!

Thanks for the response was of great help to me. I have a 2nd opinion with a different gyno in August so i will be discussing the days i should be taking then, however my current gyno had said we should have been focusing intercourse on days 11 to 14. So i find it very interesting that we could have been hindering our chances by doing it evry day!

Currently im on 100mg clomid. As i have apparently reached the level required I have been told to stay at this level..But as i said im going for a 2nd opinion....

Dell- I have regular u/s and sometimes blood tests to see if clomid has matured follies, and when I am likely to ovulate. I ovulate late (about day 21). It's not going to hurt to DTD every second day untill 21 or 22, so I reckon cover your bases. Do you know when you ovulate?

Kell- In the end fate intervened! I have lost my prescription for clomid, so I have to wait untill next month. We will try this month (who knows maybe I will ovulate?), but a month without meds can only be a good thing for my moods! I hope you are well, and bubs isn't giving you too many hassles.

Stejen- Great to hear from you! Sorry to hear about the morning sickness, but they say the sicker you are the more of those pregnancy hormones. I was sick until about week 13 or 14, then nothing much unless I was tired or not eating properly.

Mandii- How are you going? The dreaded AF must be due about now, Good luck!

Katie- the waiting is the worst isn't it? The trick is keep busy!

AFM- as I mentioned I'm having a month off the clomid, so if no period in a month, it will have to be primolut again... Oh well. I will have to go back to docs to get another script, I thing master X (our almost 3 year old) might have posted it somewhere and I have looked everywhere for it!

Kell and Becnxavi - I never got my af so i back on the provera to get it all started again but my obs rekons another month on 100mg but been on that for three months now so I just thinking of putting myself up more hmmm really no idea so back again for another month. How you guys travelling?? Just give me some hints i di u/s at 21 days and no ovulation so do you think i should go against my obs and try a higher dose of clomid? I really need answers I just wish one would work. I will keep you posted!

I'm no doctor, but as far as I'm aware if you don't ovulate, I thought they up the dose. I ovulated at 50mg, then second month on 50 didn;t work do I was upped to 100mg. As far as I know that's pretty much what everyone else does to. Maybe rig doc and ask why they haven't said up the dose? Do you know whether any follie matured? I know my follies mature, but I need a shot to actually ovulate.

Bec...I have no idea when i ovulate, I was told to just really focus on days 11 to 14 and a blood test at day 21....howerver now im at the required level i have no more bloods. its interesting that u/s etc are done. I have a 2nd opinion app booked for august so will see how that goes...although would be better if i didn have to and this round actually works..fingers crossed

Nothing much happening with me. I'm having a round off and I actually feel ok about that. I got my script replaced so I can start again after next period. Hopefully I ovulate on my own, but highly unlikely.

I'm feeling a little shattered today. A friend of mine had a baby girl with severe heart abnormalities last week and she died on Tuesday. It makes me think: What a blessing to have a healthy child. Maybe I should just stop and be happy with my beautiful, healthy boy...and stop worrying about another. Sorry, I'm just so sad about it.

Bec~ I am so sorry to hear about your friends baby. My thoughts are with you and your friend. :grouphug: It is a very difficult decision you now face, about whether to go on or not. I was uncertain about whether to go for another baby, but i think if you look into your heart you will know exactly what you want to do one way or another.

Dell~ Welcome to this thread it is a very inspirational forum. I have had many questions about clomid. None of my friends understand what is going on with my body. The great thing about this forum is that all these ladies have been or are going through exactly the same process that we are in. My questions are usually answered before I ask them which is fantastic because then I know that I am not alone.

As for me: Like I mentioned earlier I am still waiting to begin. My Doctor has started me on 50mg serophene days 4-8, intercourse from 10-15 however i told my hubby that it was from day 10 til day 21. Hey I may as well get something out of it!! Then blood tests day 21, 25 and 29. I don't think it will work on round 1 but you just never know. Miss T my 5 year old has been telling everyone at her school that I am pregnant already so maybe there is something that she knows and I don't.

Do you ladies do pregnancy tests before you start your clomid, just to be certain? I don't want to risk already bein pregnant and taking the drugs.

Sorry its been a while but hey just been little sad but yet another month is now here, I contact my obs and he said he wants to up my dose to 150mg this month so fingers crossed, so that means i was 50mg for two months then 100mg for a month no change in levels now he said lets do 150mg and hopefully there be a change if not he wants me to come in a discuss options. So I am new to this, first time forum user. I found this site about a week ago on a really bad day. I couldn't stop reading, I just wanted to know more. It made me feel so much better to know that I am not alone, there are so many other women just like me. My friends just don?t understand, they try, but it's not the same. None of them are even trying to conceive.

A bit about me. I'm 25yo, been trying to conceive for 2 & 1/2 years now (ever since we got married). Got diagnosed with PCO about 12 months ago now. Decided to try something a little more natural for a while at first, so I went to a Naturopath for about 8 months. Whilst she did help me to regulate a reasonably normal cycle (prior to seeing her I had 2 a year) she was still unable to make me ovulate (unaware of this at the time). I just started seeing my Gyno 2 months ago. Have just gone through my first cycle of 50mg Clomid and I ovulated for what looks like the first time in at least 2 & 1/2 years, :dance: yey! I have just got my friend back again so will start taking Clomid in 2 days time. Fingers crossed we wont be friends for long. Ha ha!

I like others stumbled across this discussion whilst conducting a web search on Clomid. My Obs put me on Clomid yesterday for the first time and I took my first tablet last night.

A bit about myself - I am just about 28yo and was diagnosed with PCOS at 15, endiometriosis at 16 and a peturitory tumour at 17. I was told back then that I would probably have problems conceiving if at all. I have never had a regular period in my life (even when on the pill) and I wasn't too worried about it as my docs have always said not to and wait until I was ready to have bub's. It took me quite some time to find my perfect man and after being together now for 3 years have decided to get the ball rolling - even though I don't have the ring on the finger yet, hope to get that on our anniversary very soon :pray:

We have really only seriously been trying for about 6 months all up, went off the pill about 12 months ago. So about two months ago we dicided it was time to visit the Doc. Have been on Metformin for 2 months, along with my meds for tumour and as mentioned just started clomid last night. So far so good, no side effects just yet and my DDBF is hoping I don't get the mood swings as they are already bad enough :p

Well here is hoping that we all get the result we are after. We are off on holidays for our anniversary just at the right time so will see how we go... not getting my hopes up though.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced really bad bloating and wind as a side effect of Clomid? I have only taken my second tablet (50mg) last night and each morning after I have taken it I have terrible bloating and wind. Is this just coincidence or have others experienced it??

Hi Everyone,

first post on here im 22 and have PCOS, have been trying to start a family for 2 yrs and have recently started on clomid. My first month i took 50mg day 4-8 and day 15 had really bad upper abdo bloating and tenderness and some spotting which then turned into more consistant bleeding which last until i returned to my gyno who gave me meds to stop it. When i first experienced bloating i Went to my GP and he told me that it was reflux. I mentioned this to my gyno and he said that this wasnt reflux and was the clomid trying to work. This is my 2nd month and have taken 100mg day 4-8 and i am now day 34 and since yesterday have had the same symptoms and although i look about 6 months pregnant bcos im so bloated sadly im not!!! I also get hot flushes and sweat alot now that i am taking it and have been extremely teary for no reason. Good luck everyone!

I actually debated not taking another round, but I did and here I am about to start round 4 when AF finally arrives! It does get better each round, or so I've found. Lots of people recommend taking it at night rather than in the morning, which did help me.

I sincerely hope you all have a short stay here (in the nicest possible way!).

I hope all my pregnant friends are travelling well. Stejen you must be coming up for 12 weeks! Not long now Kell...

I just wanted to post and say thank all of you as your posts have helped me greatly during my ttc journey I'm 25 DH 26 and we have been ttc for 2 years.

DH is fine but I have PCOS (even though I have perfect seeming 28 days between AF's but no O)

I started Clomid 50mg three months ago all seemed really good US showed 2 excellent follicles ovulated on cue day 14 timed BD but LP was short and AF was 4 days early.

Had HSG next month and no clomid due to Dr orders, BD but AF showed.

This month Increased to 100mg 2-6 hoping to lengthen LP had a trigger shot CD 12 and O'd on CD 14 but US had shown only one follicle bit dissapointed after 2 follicles last month wern't successfull.

I have been trawling the internet in the months since I've been on clomid and this site has been great. I havn't had any real side effects of the Clomid although it did raise my BBT for 3-4 days while I was taking it.

Anhow this round tested 8 DPO to make sure HCG was out of my system and on 12 dpo (couldn't wait any longer!) and had a feint + then on 16dpo strong ++ YAY for Clomid!!!!

So I'm sending heaps of baby dust you ways *#*#*#*# and hoping that the Karma of having helped so many TTCers will come back on you all and help all your tests have two little pink lines!

I definately think this thread helped me enormously to get through what was an extremely difficult & upsetting time for me, it's so nice to be able to get advice & also just to talk to people who are going through the same situation as it's difficult for others to understand what we go through unless they have experienced it, so I hope we are able to help you as much as everyone helped me. I've said before that I really believe that the power of positive thought goes a long way, as hard as it is at times, try to keep your chin up as clomid has been a miracle drug for so many people,myself included! I was trying to concieve for 18 months without the clomid until I found out I wasn't ovulating at all due to severe pcos, so I went onto clomid, the first round on 50mg, the 2nd round on 100mg & the third on 150mg, all of which didn't make me ovulate. I decided to give it one last try & my Dr put me on 175mg & low & behold I ovulated for the first time & fell pregnant, so itdoes happen!!!

I agree with Bec above when she says to take the clomid at night, this is how I decided to take it & found it much easier on my body as you sleep through the majority of the side effects, so maybe give that a try if you are having troubles with hot flushes & bloating etc?

How is everyone doing anyway, how are you travelling Bec, I hope things are going well for you guys? Stejen how is everything travelling with your pregnancy, I certainly hope all the morning sickness has gone by now, how far along are you now?

As for me, im now a few days off 34 weeks pregnant & all is doing very well so far. I just finished work so now im going to concentrate on making sure everything is ready for peanuts arrival.

Hello all!! It's been quite some time since I have posted...I was in school over the summer and have started up the fall semester so I have been busy busy busy.

My pregnancy is going well thus far...I will be 19 weeks on Tuesday and so far everything looks good and healthy. The morning sicness is gone!!! my baby bump is beginning to sprout...Also, I felt it for the first time this past week which was pretty amazing!

I about halfway there, and really really starting to feel the itch!!! I cannot wait to meet this little one. I actually already know that I have to have a C-Section because of a brain surgery I had in the past, so my date it already scheduled...the morning of January 28th! It's nice to be able to plan so well, and at least I know it won't come after that day!! Very nice to have an exact end point in mind!!

I hope that everyone is doing well...BABYDUST to all!!! I do have to say that I just found out I have a cousin with PCOS and though I thought she had been trying she just confirmed to me that she has been trying for the past two years...I can tell it's really hard on her, and though she is wonderfully supportive and happy, I know it makes her sad to see me and where I am at. I thank God every single day for my blessing...and I pray every single day for those of you out there who are going through this process to be blessed the same way...

Hi Guys, I'm still on the roller coaster of clomid have been on it now since Jan and no luck. My obs rekons to come in and we will try something new as I havent ovulated on clomid even on 150mg :wall: So I am off to see him on Friday hopefully with some new ideas. I have started a new diet with my dietician but I'm not overweight but they have suggested to loose some weight which may help me lets hope so cause I am struggling to deal with the fact that this baby wont happen. Anyways I will keep you up to date with my travel. Unfortunately clomid wasnt for me. Kepp in touch guys good luck to all though on the clomid travel :pray:

I am still waiting to start clomid!!! Doctor gave me provera to bring on af. Have taken it for about 6 days and have turned into an absolute COW!!! I have been moody and cranky and picking fights with hubby just for the hell of it (it seems).

Just wondering if anyone else felt like this???????? It is a little scary..

hey i am samantha i have been trying for a baby with my partner for about a yr and half . i have been bleeding unnormaly for the last year and my docotor did scans and test on me to see wat was going on and they couldnt found nothing. so they have put me on clomid . i started taking them on the 4th of august and stop on the 8th. jsut wondering are their meant to be any side effects? and how long does it take till these pills make me pregnant ? pls reply
