    Imigran nasal spray

Does anyone on here use this?

My son was prescribed this for his migraines.. while it worked he ended up standing over the toilet for half an hour thanks to nausea and then it came back 4 hours later anyways,,

it is not commonly used on children under the age of 12 but my GP felt it would be ok and I trust him.. Anyways.. How have others gone on this?

Isaac asked me yesterday not to give him the yucky medicine again and I most likely won't. I have to go see the Dr for more anyways so will talk about yet another alternative..

I have used this in the past on two occasions and hated it. I spent the first hour after using it throwing my guts up and it felt like a had worms crawling all over my head. I have also had the injection with no luck whatsoever.

A couple of different things I have tried and found successful are the following which can all be purchased over the counter.

Disprin Direct - preferably lemon flavour - At the first sign of a migraine dissolve 2 of these in the mouth, they are absorbed directly and will usually start working within about 15 minutes. They taste disgusting, so make sure he has a glass of water close by

    Dolased/Analgesic Calmative/Mersyndol

I take the Dolased or the cheaper brand Analgesic Calmative. Depending on the severity of the migraine and time of day depends on the amount of tablets I take. 1 usually during the day and 2 at night (they do make u drowsy) but are brilliant and you dont wake up feeling groggy at the end.

I hope this helps. I am almost 35 and have suffered true migraines since I was 13 and have found these two options to be the most effective. I have tried many medications in the past, including preventatives eg blood pressure tablets without any success .

Unfortunately during this pregnancy I have not been able to use the Disprin Direct

Good luck and I hope you find something that works for your son soon, I can sympathise with him

Edited: I have just realised that your son is only 5 years old. These options are definately not for him. Definately speak to the dr

I feel bad for giving it to him now.. He said his tongue felt funny so maybe he felt like there were works or something to but couldn't verbalise it.. He most definetly didn't like it..

I figured he wouldn't be able to take those meds but thanks for the advice anyways..

I used it once, but hated it running down the back of my throat. I am currently on the imigrain tablets which i have no trouble with.

Would a 5 yr old be able to take a tablet? or this tablet? might have to ask about it. Do you get any side effects from it?

No side affects, but Imigrain is a pretty powerful drug. I had to go through alot of other stuff before I was even prescribed it. I would definitely be seeing your GP or getting another opinon about something more suitable for your son.

but I have made an appointment for next monday to see my Gp. will see what we can do for him.. Isaac has finished his cycle of headache so he shouldn't have another for a while now fingers crossed

everytime i am hospitalised they give me 3 aspalgin ( you can buy these over the counter) dissolved in about 30 ml of water and a maxalon tablet this is the reccomended action in ED's these days as opioids have little to no effect on a true migraine i have suffed with true migraines since 12 so for a whole 22 years i hate them and it interfers 9sp) with daily living i am truley sorry your poor little man is going through this

one of my friends mother has recently under gone nerve surgery in an effort to elevate migraines and has been migraine free for the last 6 months i am personally going to investigate this further

THought I would update.. Went to the GP and we have decided to treat with just panadol and nurofen as required and if we find it is particularly bad use the periactin.. I think for now I am happy to do this.. Imigran spray is out..

Shazz: sorry you have to deal with migraines too..
