My left Anterior cruxiate ligament is playing up and ice and rest just aren't cutting it. We'll be in Hong Kong in 2 weeks and be walking a lot so I don't know how my knee is going to hold up if I don't treat it now. I can't get a doc's app until the day after we leave(typical) and they won't consult over the phone but I have a pack of Voltaren at home and figured if some of you out there have been given it whilst BFing, it can't be bad. I've read the contraindications and it says that whilst it does go through in to BM, there are no observed effects on the baby..
This the anti-inflammatory of choice handed out at my hospy post-caesarean. They sent me home and instructed me to keep taking it for another week - but with cautions about not using it long term and always taking it with food as it can wreak havoc with your stomach lining and even cause ulcers in a relatively short time.
Having said that I would still be trying to get in at your drs, ring and ask to be put on the cancellation list as you are travelling o/s and need to be seen before you go - repeat that it's urgent and keep ringing back until they find you a spot. Good luck and enjoy your trip!
I would imagine that if it doesn't have a warning not to take while BF on the packet then it should be okay. Maybe do a google search on it to see what you can find out.
I've read the pack and googled it and it says that while it goes through in to BM it has no observed effects on the baby so that to me means that it doesn't have bad effects on the baby but they want to cover their arses and not say that it's safe if they don't know. My mum's a dentist and she knows this kind of thing...she said to just take it and Mary, if they give it to post c-section mums then I'm sure they assume that many/most of them would be BFing.
I think I'll go ahead and take it for a week max. I've been seeing a chiro for some bad back troubles and even a masseusse for my back and I've recently develloped a pain in my left wrist from carrying Logan and pushing the stroller (geez, I sound like an old woman!) so I may as well kill many birds with one stone.
