Who can tell me about Dermoid Cysts?

Hi hun, I think the cyst I had was a bit different. I don't think it will affect TTC though.

I have a dermoid cyst which i will have surgically removed in the near future. Dermoid cysts are cysts that contain hair,teeth,fat and are hard...unlike other cysts they don't go away by themselves and need to be surgically removed, which is usually done via key hole.

From what I have read, it's called a cyst and is a benign tumour, but the specialist my SIL saw said it wasn't a cyst or a tumour, just a dermoid?? That doesn't sound right to me.
She doesn't even know a single thing about the surgery or anything... they've just said, it's a 2.8cm dermoid that has to be removed surgically.... go and make an appt with someone at the hospital.
I'd be pretty upset and confused if it was me and I have a tiny bit of knowledge.

My son has just been diagnosed with a dermoid cyst- 7mm. It is on his head, and actually sits in the skull. We need to see a neurologist soon. I am told that it is not urgent or likely to cause any problems at this stage. I hope your family member can find more answers.

Westy- I was interested to read your post. Where is your cyst located? (don't answer if you don't feel comfortable). Have you had it since birth? We noticed my son's cyst at birth and it has grown bigger as his skull has grown.

I had one on my right ovary removed when I was 18. It was benign and the Gynae called is a Dermoid cystic-tumour. He did not do keyhole surgery but cut me in a caezar cut but it was 16 years ago. I went on to have 2 children.

i had a dermoid cyst on my right ovary, found during pregnancy through u/s. had had considerable abdominal pain for about 3 yrs which went undiagnosed after ongoing tests. the cyst was removed during emergency c/s and was sent for testing, it was benign and ob advised they rarely are cancerous, rarely affect ttc, but can cause pain, in some cases they dont cause pain, but usually do. she said it was nothing to be concerned about but if they are left for long periods of time they have a higher risk of becoming cancerous and are better off removed. it did stop the pain for about 6 months, then the pain returned at which point u/s was done to see if it had returned but it hadn't. pain has now gone again.
