Uhuh, I've heard that a lot. It kind of ignores that a person who has a gift for art or singing or sport or medicine or law or sales or ...well, really anything that the average person doesn't have... they all get paid for any time they devote to sharing their gift with other people...unless they've already made a fortune which is when they usually start giving it away for free, in small doses to protect their income streams.if they have this gift they should do it without profit.
I guess in your mum's case, if she feels she's not deriving any benefit, then that's a more solid reason not to spend any money on it IMO than just because someone should be giving their time/effort/overhead costs away for "free".
