But - I'd be tempted to see another gyno for a second opinion. Having a GP & Gyno giving different opinions isn't ideal.

To answer your other question a GP can remove your Mirena (check first when making the appointment), a friend just had it done while having her regular pap smear. She didn't even know when he had finished.
I had never uesed it before kids, only after and it is working fine.
