That's really hard to answer, as it is different for everyone. It is apparently supposed to hurt a little, the doctor advised me to take pain killers (panadol) before coming in. I forgot to take them but luckily I didn't feel any pain at all. The doc said I was the "perfect patient", LOL, as I didn't flinch at all and didn't even have any spotting.
A little pain and spotting for a few days after is very normal though. thinking back (I had mine put in a year ago) I think I did get a little period-like cramping for a couple hours afterwards, but it wasn't too bad
Take a panty liner with you in case of spotting/bleeding afterwards.
I can't imagine it would hurt anymore than the amniocentesis I had when DS2 was 18 weeks in utero. Everyone's different, there's no doubt. Just like everything. Dunno what I'm worried about, I've had two drug free labours!! Everything else should be nothing compared to that! Once a chicken, always a chicken.
they can apply some local numbing gel there if you are really concerned.
it may be tender but also it is very tiny and if the dr has good vision of the cervix it should pop straight in. :d

It does hurt - for me it was like bad period cramps - but was bearable. I don't know whether having it so soon after birth will make it better or worse - certainly you will be more sensitive, but your cervix should also open more easily. Best of luck hun.
