Well, I had it put in.

Not traumatic at all. I haven't had any cramping or anything apart from some spotting all day. So, there you go. I didn't have any anaesthetic at all, he just did it and I had a pap smear at the same time - so killed two birds with one stone.

I have a check up appt in a month, but apart from that, I'll just have to see how I go. The Dr recommended giving it a good "go" for at least 6 months. He reckons any problems (if there are any) tend to settle down by then. If there are problems still in 6 months, we can review whether it is taken out. So far so good.

So there you go. Will be interesting to see what happens in the long term.

Hi ladies, just wondering if anyone can tell me who can put the IUD in?

I didn't have an OB for my pregnancy and I want to go to my GP to get it put in, but the receptionist said that she doesn't do them, and would refer me to a specialist. I found that bizzare as the GP was the one who removed my original IUD, what's more, she's an OBGYN / GP

I don't really want to go to a stranger.. do you think there's any chance the receptionist could be wrong? Did anyone get their IUD put in by a GP?

    Thanks in advance

Any GP can remove the Mirena, but I think you need an ob to have it inserted. While your GP may be an ob/gyn, if she's no longer practicing she might not do this kind of procedure. Alternatively, she may just prefer not to herself (for whatever reason). But check with her if you're unsure.
