I haven't heard babies would wean, in fact, I heard the exact opposite, that it was more suitable for bfing because of the low dose (local nature) of the IUD. It certainly hasn't affected any woman I've spoken too in terms of milk supply, etc. I know of other issues, but not this one.

Sorry feeb - thread crashing because I have an appointment with my doctor next week about it too and I want as much info as I can get. I hope you don't mind ...

How common is cervical shock? Has anyone ever had it? Was it awful? I am just interested in the chances of it happening. The whole thing sounds a bit scary to me.

    Does it stop periods completely?

Is there anything else to know about them?

FWIW the women I did know who had problems experienced them quickly (within a week or two) and they were resolved by removing the Mirena. None experienced any long term ill effects.

Oh cool good to know as weening would be a reason for me not to use!

What other issues do you know off?

I think you'd be best getting the low down from your gyn on possible issues, just like any contraception there's things to be aware of. But everyone is different and what has happened to one woman may not with another. Avoid Dr Google!
