    D&C complications

    Hi all

I had a D&C for missed miscarriage a few weeks ago and it was my third in the last 12 months. For the previous 2 I recovered very quickly and had no complications. However, recovery did not go to plan for this one and 3 days later I started having incredibly painful cramps and heavy bleeding and feeling terrible. I went back to the Dr who ordered blood tests and ultrasound and then advised I still had pregnancy tissue left inside and was developing an infection. I was put on antibiotics and had to have another D&C done 8 days after the initial one.

It has now been 2 weeks since the repeat D&C and I just haven't bounced back well. Dr seems to think I'm OK but I'm worried that I still feel unwell and don't know what to do. I bled for a week after the repeat D&C as well as for the week between the two so I guess it might be that I'm still recovering from losing a bit of blood over those 2 weeks. I am still very flat and tired and am having headaches and occasional dizzy spells. I don't feel myself and it bothers me that I'm not feeling better as I hate not being in control of things and not knowing when this will end. I feel like I can't move on mentally until I can recover physically and have the mental clarity to process what's happened and make some rational decisions about whether to keep trying to conceive into the future.

Has anyone else experienced having a repeat D&C like this and/or having 4 D&Cs in 12 months like me? I'm worried that so many D&Cs may have caused damage and further reduced my chances of conceiving as I know D&Cs can lead to scar tissue and other issues. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had similar experiences, especially to know if you experienced difficulties recovering and how long it took to get back to normal.

I am sorry to read you have been through so much in the last 12months. Take out the emotional stuff a lot of your symptoms you explained sound like that of anaemia. Have they done your Hb or told you to take iron suppliments?

I have not had repeat D&C's myself although have had multiple pregnancy losses and 2 surgeries (first for ectopic and the second to fix my remaining tube and investigate complications I had from the first surgery) It took me a good 8-10weeks to recover physically before any other type of recovery could occur.

Thanks for your support. Mildez I wondered about iron or something like that. I still had half a bottle of preg multi vitamins in the cupboard so have started taking those again to see if it helps with recovery.
