    Did I, or didn't I?

    Hello everyone,

Hoping your collective minds might help me shed since light on my current situation.

3 weeks ago, I was 8w6d by LMP. I went to see my obgyn for the first time and he performed a scan just to see how things were going. My baby measured 7w6d according to the scan but no heartbeat could be found. I immediately had another scan at the ultrasound clinic across the road for a second opinion and still no HB was found.

I was told that my baby had not made it and I had miscarried. I was totally devastated as this was my first pregnancy and I had no symptoms that made me think anything was wrong leading up to that point.

Here's my dilemma however.. so it's now 3 weeks since being told the bad news, and i still have not passed anything. Not a single hint of blood, nor any cramps.. in fact I feel completely the same as before.

I have had some thick mucus discharge over the course of several days lately, but it's clear/white in colour, no sign of any blood in it.

I can't help but think maybe my baby is ok and the doc misdiagnosed the mc?

What do you think, anyone had similar happen to them?

Your dates could be wrong and your earlier scans may have been too early for a heartbeat. In your shoes I would be asking for another scan.

Sorry you've been playing the waiting game for so long.. must be draining. I'd be doing a follow up too, if it is a missed m/c then it might need to be checked, and if bub is growing nicely then that would be exciting news! Definitely see the dr again and see where you're at. You're bound to know for sure after this amount of time.

I didnt have a similar experience, well not really but if it were me, I'd be getting another ultrasound. If your dates are wrong and all is ok, then great!!! Sometimes with a miscarriage a D&C is necessary as nothing comes away. We waited nearly 4 weeks and nothing happened. What a rollercoaster you must be on

I don't have any miscarriage experience but it seems your dates are only a week different. I personally know when I conceived Ds 1 but my ultrasound gave me a full week later in dates (I had 13th June and my scan said 20th then he came on the 11th) so I personally would be asking for another ultrasound in a week or so. It would be a hard wait and very emotionally draining but definitely worth it....hugs...

But there was no heart beat found though. I think the only way to know for sure is a blood test/ scan. Sorry that you are going through this stressful time. :-(

I agree the no heart beat is disconcerting but I think for piece of mind another ultrasound and blood test..

My last miscarriage I was 13 weeks but the baby had passed around 7 weeks. Until the placenta takes over between 12-14 weeks your body can still act like it is pregnant because in a sense it is. My placenta had developed to a 13 week placenta and I was sick, tired and 'pregnant' signs all the way even though the baby had stopped growing.
Did he make a plan for you to go back and see him?

Thank you for all your replies, I appreciate them!

I agree that another scan would be ideal, I am going to give it one more week and if still nothing, then I will request it as it will have been 4 weeks.

Are you feeling other symptoms like nausea sore boobs etc etc to suggest maybe you still are pregnant?
I never had any nausea to start with but boobs are slightly sore and haven't shrunk back to their pre-preggo size either

Hmm that's awful, sorry you had to go through that, how torturous Doc hasn't asked me to come back in, probably because he's adamant that I will miscarry.

Regarding the lack of HB.. could it be that bubs was too small at the time, or sitting in a position so that it didn't show up in the US?

Like ladybirdflies, I had all the symptoms of pregnancy even though my little angel had not developed. There was a healthy placenta that was creating all the right hormones, so my body thought I was pregnant and didn't miscarry naturally. I had to have a D&C.

The reason your baby measured smaller could be because it passed away a few days before your scan. When a baby passes away in the early stages of pregnancy it begins to shrink at about the same rate that it was growing. So bub may have measured a week behind because it had passed away 3-4 days earlier.

If you had a transvaginal ultrasound and they couldn't find a heartbeat I'm very sorry because they are pretty accurate by 8w. The little heart usually starts beating before 6 weeks and can be seen with a transvaginal ultrasound.

Having said all that, if you haven't miscarried naturally and your doctor suggests a D&C, I would definitely want to have a scan to confirm before I let them do it if I were in your situation. There are amazing stories out there in the land of the internet about miracle babies and pregnancies that were given no hope and then turned out perfect, so there's always a small glimmer of hope to hold on to.

    Best of luck ♥

So I've booked in for another scan and appointment with my ob next week.. but I've started to bleed old blood which has since changed into fresh blood today. I guess it's game over then.

    Re: Did I, or didn't I?

Thank you, appreciate the kind words.

Since posting this morning, the blood loss has been by the bucket load, and the pain (oh the pain..my gosh) set in. I passed a tennis ball sized sac and DH and I just buried our baby in our back yard. The bleeding and pain almost stopped instantaneously once the sac passed.

I know it's a bit TMI but wanted to mention it all in case it might help others out there going through the same thing.

On a brighter note, looking forward to tcc again soon.
