Unhappy Don't know whats going on...or not

    Hi there

I was recently told that I was pregnant, about 5 weeks along, and then 10 days later I had a scan and there was no heartbeat. They are going to do another scan in a couple days and then schedule a D & C. My problem is I have started cramping over the last 2 days (1 day after being told there was no heartbeat) but other than the cramping, there is nothing much else happening. A little tiny bit of old blood but not anything I need to wear a pad for.

Has anyone else had experience with this?? Is it normal to cramp but not to bleed?

Why isnt there an instruction manual for our bodies??

    Hi CT,

I'm sorry you are having a tough time. If you were only approximately 5 weeks when you discovered you were pg and then had the scan 10 days later it's possible that it was just too early to see a heartbeat. Did they measure the sac to get a more accurate idea of dates?

I hope you get some good news at the next scan.

    HI Nickle

The first scan the gestational sac was 29mm and the second was 39mm. Apparently the uterus keeps growing even after the little lodger has failed to grow.

The doctor was pretty sure there was nothing there and pretty much just said I was going to have a D&C and not to worry as I could try again after that. pfffff!

Can i please ask that you wait and get a second opinion. You are SO early that it could be just too early to see anything properly.

If it is a miscarriage i am so sorry, as having just gone through one myself it is awful and please take care.

I am really sorry to hear that, LittleMissSummer. really I am. breaks my heart to think of all the people in pain out there when it should be the easiest thing in the world to achieve.

I have had a little bit of bleeding (still not much) and the cramps come and go. Will see how I go Thursday but I am being realistic (against my wishes!!) that my little lodger didn't stick around. Its strange though, I feel like I actually knew him. weird.

Yes, that - there could be many reasons that there is no heart beat yet - doesn't mean that the baby isn't viable at all! PLease don't take the word of one medical person as the truth. Leave it a couple more weeks to be sure - there is not going to be any harm done by waiting - if it's a miscarriage then your body may well lose the baby naturally anyway.
I have a friend who was told that there was no heartbeat in her bub like you, he is now a nearly 2 year old healthy boy!

I agree with what everyone else has said hun. Get another scan done.

Not to freak you out, but I had a m/c in May and didn't have any bleeding or cramping (still haven't )... everyone is different and everyone's bodies react so differently when they are put under stress like this.

I had 4 early scans and didn't see a heartbeat until the 3rd one. It was at the fourth that we found out we'd lost the baby at 8w.

I completely understand you being resigned to the fact that your little one may be gone and for that I'm so sorry. I really hope the outcome is different for you.

When you find that manual, I'd love to take a peek

Hi Im sorry you are going through this. As the others said, I really think you need to wait because it might just be too early to see a heartbeat.

I hope it all turns out well and isnt a m/c.

    Hi Girls

Its very nice of you to check up on me :-))

Well its only one more sleep til I know for sure.

I went to the supermarket and bought myself some pizza and a very chocolatey dessert for my dinner.

    The little things help, eh.

I still have this annoying tiny little bit of hope pestering me, but other than that, just want it all sorted out one way or the other so we can get on with things. I hate limbo land.

    Talk to you soon

    Hey girls

what a day. Went for the final scan and no heartbeat. I saw my lodger on the screen but definitely no heartbeat.

Had the D & C about 2 1/2 hours later. They dont muck around here, thats for sure. I was freaking out as my partner was at work and no way he could make it back. I asked the nurse to double check with the doctor that he was 100% sure there was no heartbeat. She was lovely and did speak to him again for me. He said 100% not viable. He was pretty much 100% at the last scan but wanted to leave it a bit longer just in case. I feel much better for asking twice though.

In and out in 30 mins and at home on the couch 45 mins after that. Its like it never happened (or should I wait til the painkillers wear off before I make that comment ??)

Just wanted to thank you all for caring. I was just telling a friend of mine how you guys saved me from losing my mind during all this. YOu really are wonderful people.

I have my fingers firmly crossed for better outcomes in the future.
