I'm so sorry you're going through this, but glad you are booked in on Friday I too, had never had surgery or a GA when I went in for my D&C, and I was freaking out badly, plus all the emotional pain of losing our baby. I told the anaesitist (spg?) how freaked out I was and he was great, as were all the staff. I have no recollection whatsoever of the procedure, just going to sleep and waking in recovery, and very little to no pain at all. Bleeding was very minimal too, and I didn't have any painkillers, home that afternoon. As Hannah said, physically I was fine by the next day, emotional healing is a continual process.
That's not to discount that for some it obviously doesn't go as smoothly, just wanted to tell you another positive (for want of a better word) experience.
Perhaps your friend meant emotionally she didn't expect you to be there the next day? Her way of saying it's okay for you to give yourself some time?
